It does look different in there. The cylinder bolt does look aluminum, kind of galvanized color. Very interesting. image.jpgimage.jpg

No, you also should have the updated version. That change is valid for us machines from serial. 501 125 787. Have a look under the cover of the position from the diagnostic jack. If it`s on the left side of the air filter it`s the old version, if it`s on the right side of the air filter/carburetor you have the new one.

This.

The MS 241 was already updated in 2014 and became 6.4oz lighter. Many different things were changed like aluminium screws for the crankcase, crankcase halves, crankshaft, muffler, carburetor and so on.
Do you have anymore details on this? Do you mean the fasteners are aluminum? Do you mean that the above parts were redesigned to be lighter? I can’t see the crank being aluminum.

The screws for the crankcase halves are made of aluminium and are matt grey color, non-magnetic. I don`t think that the other redisigned parts are lighter. I don`t know what was changed exactly on the newer parts compared to the older ones, they were adapted to the new version.

After the 441 the 241 was the next Mtronic release. It makes sense now the the 441 is long gone the 241 will get upgraded with a new model too. I highly doubt Stihl won't replace such a great selling much loved 40cc pro class saw. The 241-cm was BEST in its class without doubt, something lighter, faster and filled with updated tech will replace it I'm sure. Why would Stihl NOT replace this model?
I have yet to hear of a replacement for the 241

It was a very well liked saw, my brother has one and loves it, but I think they are leaving that class of saw to the top handle saws.

The 261 V-2 (current version) is very light.

Old thread, but goes to show Stihl definitely didn't feel the need to replace the 241C with anything comparable after a handful of years. It's hard to justify keeping a model alive if it doesn't sell well compared to others, no matter how well liked it is.

I have a couple 241C's and a 261C. If I'm not sure what size logs/trees I need to cut I'll grab the 261 every time. The 241 is amazing for what it is though, and by far my favorite limbing/brush saw. Parts for the 241 are near impossible to find though.

After having both a 241 and a 261 version 2, I much prefer the 241. I never had a spot for 50 cc saws in my fleet. If I need a saw with a bar bigger than 16 inch, then out comes a 24 inch hung on a 70cc saw

I've got 15 running saws of all different sizes, but if I'm not milling my 4 go to saws are: (they are all ported)

261 V-2 with 18" 3/8
462 - 20"
462 - 24"
Hybrid - 28"

I have lots of other great running saws, but it is rear I need anything other than those 4.

The 462s do most of the work, and if one gets a dull chain, I just start using the other.

Do those 4 mods to any saw, it will out cut any other saw.
