I'm being lazy and trying to avoid the degree wheel - and I guess it would be good to have actual measurements of height of squish band and ports in relation to the base of the cylinder, cuz who knows what mine is. Really, both types of measurements would be good for best results.

All that being said, Spike's OEM prices are very reasonable... ;-)

I think the thing with the AM is MAYBE I could get it to run as good as 359 and MAYBE it will last. If I got a 357 and touched it up a little bit, then I'd have something. It appears from my searching with Marshy's help yesterday that the info is out there.

Is it going to some with a new piston bearing?

I wouldn't know, first rodeo. Speaking of which, I'm gonna do crank seals as a preventative measure...anything else I should do? Thanks

Make sure you have an oem piston pin bearing.

Trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear? Don’t hold your breath, haha!

Now I gotta go home and rig up a degree wheel.

Initial numbers with .018” gasket after taking .028” off base.

In : 82

Exh : 104

Xfer : 120

Squish .023”

Compression 150psi. Little disappointed in that. Cheap ring methinks.

So a factory cylinder with no base gasket

103 exst - 154° duration
79 intake - 158° duration
Blowdown - 20°

(I raised my exhaust back to 101° - 158 duration giving me the same intake time area as the exhaust.)

You're at
104 exst - 152° duration
83 intake - 166° duration
Blowdown - 16°

Right now you have more intake duration than exhaust.

I dont think you'd kill the torque of the saw myself. Others with chime in I'm sure. I would raise the exhaust back to 102° say and widen to 65% of bore. That would increase your blowdown time a bit and give you almost the same time area for exhaust and intake.

If you're not opposed to pulling it back apart, I'd widen the exhaust to 65% of bore, dual port the muffler and slap it all back together. Some saws (I hear) run great with exhaust timing in the 104/105° arena. (exhaust port widened & Usually with an intake around 78-80°) but regardless, you might have a torque monster on your hands!

I wouldn’t risk all your hard work by running that cheap am ring that looked damaged in the picture.

What are you guys' thoughts about those numbers? Got my 357 coming from @Spike60, but might as well see if this one will run worth a hoot. I think the ring isn't worn in yet, that damage looks a lot worse in the huge pic than it is. I don't think the guy who built it ran it more than to test it, as did I. We shall see. :)

Muffler is also AM with 3/8" dia outlet. It needs opened up big time, I'll post up on that later.

Another thing I need to do is pull the clutch and oil pump. The crank has some resistance and I can't tell what it is. Not wanting to split cases but want to get a good feel for bearings.

Thanks!

I raised the exh roof .020" per @Benwa 's suggestion last night and double checked timing. So now I'm 82/102/120. Also opened exh width to 65%. If no one objects, I'm going to blow the muffler open, screw it together tonight and try it tomorrow.

So...down the rabbit hole we go...this @Benwa guy is a bad influence, I’m telling ya.

Figured out since I don’t have removable xfer covers, I could blow the lowers out to gasket size like the 357 in the pic. Die grinders I have are a big too big for this, bull in a china cabinet. Rough, but quick.

Nothing to get into the upper Xfers and from looking at pics on the internets, I think they should be wider. Oh well.

Also waved magic wand at intake and opened to 28mm wide.
