Playing around with the idea of running 20 inch bar & .325 semi-skip on my MS 261C.
It has been so impressive with .325 square chisel on a 16 inch bar...this would help me only use my bigger saws when need be.
Of course it's a mere pipe dream if the chain is not in existence or discontinued...anybody aware where it could be had?
I know it could be hand-pieced together...

    Thanks,
    Reggie

Skip on short bars feels real rough.
That saw should full comp .325 no problem or if you do have a problem then maybe set you rakers I little higher.

Or port and run 3/8s full comp FTW !

    Hmm...appreciate the info.
Reckon I'll just keep her .325, don't wanna "poison the watering hole!" :tiburon::risas3:

    Understandable.
And here is another thought. This is a bone stock husky55 pulling 3/8s skip 24" bar. It really has no business doing this. I imagine your 261 would fair considerably better.

    YIKES!!
    That was borderline brutal!
On 2nd thought...may just go up to a 18 inch bar.
I'm always studying up ways to spend more loot on saws it seems!:BangHead::banana:

Hey talked with a guy from Frawleys Saw Shop & he said Oregon stopped making semi & full skip in .325...you gotta switch over to 3/8 if you want it...:chuck:

You could always find a Narrow kerf .325 b/c set up. But then run in to the problem of chip clearance.

I like a 18 or 20” .325 on a 550. That’s how I have it setup at work. Don’t have to bend my back over as much. 16” just kills my back at my height after a day of use (I am 6’2).

I prefer 20” 3/8 on my 2153 and 2253. Less bending for limbing and long enough to buck some good size chunks too

Hmm...I'm a a hair under 6'4...the 16' bar rips, but it does extract it's "pound of flesh" after a while...:uptosomething:

I bet your 261 could pull a 20 in .325 full comp without sweating.

I say you'll be fine with full comp .325 on that 20". I find it to be a great combo. It tackles a good majority of what I need without the weight of bigger saws.

Im in the same position as you. All I cut is firewood on the ground. At 6'2, a 20 to 24 bar is my choice.
261 is a great saw, but maybe you need a bigger saw with a longer bar.

He has the bigger saw, he was just thinking of running a longer bar on his limbing saw so he could make the hand full of longer cuts he comes across.

Put a 20" .325 full comp on it, should be just fine.

Twenty inch .325" full comp chain will cut just fine for you on that saw.
