The 166's I had would out cut my stock 880 & 088, though not by a lot, with less rpm and we're easier on the operator. I ran them with 42" bars and new 404 chain, side by side, buried in big cedar to compared.

I would say a Mac 125 has more torque but less speed. The 166 will trounce a Homelite 750 or Jonsereds 111S period. A good 797 might put the hurt on a 166 though, and a 101B WILL!

Thanks for the info fellas!
SAWFUN how would a stihl 090 fit into the mix? 137cc non gear drive 090 to be specific if you have run one of them as well

edit just checked out the other thread thanks for all the info

I owned a race one on pipe and muffler. Owned a woods ported one too.

Not impressed stock or woods ported.

Handle like a half filled water balloon too.

Yes i have run stock and ported 090's and 090g's. If your talking East Coast wood then an 090 is out of place but for the few big trees we have out west here, that must come down, the others I have run, in big wood, do not compare. Let me say this, my ported 088 will pull a 60" bar fine if you keep the rpm's at the top, but drop rpm and your stuck, not so with the direct drive 090 in that bar length. Again, 50" and under the 088 wins, but not above, in my little experience.

I have heard the 090 made a lot of torque but not rpms so I figured they would only shine in large wood pulling big bars. but that's just what i heard I never had the opportunity to run any of these beasts and in the big timber they were made for
