I m new to your form.
Have enjoyed the treads for sometime.

My stihl 070 muffler broke the other day we'll sawing a Guanacaste up for a neighbor.

For sometime I have wondered about the trumpet pipe.

Decided to fab one up myself this morning.

Way louder than the stock muffler.
Ants crawling in my ears.

I'm wondering if I should baffle it so it gets some back pressure?

As for the noise.
Louder you are here the more they like it.

More a baffle and back pressure issue.
I don't want to burn up my piston.

Thanks for any input

aftermarket mufflers are cheap and readily available for the 070/090
loud is fine with hearing protection

Welcome! Great to see new faces around here. (Especially when they bring 070s....)

I think with the carb adjusted properly you'll be fine. Many older saws had little to no baffles or had just a straight pipe. If I were to do custom, it would at least be stylish ;)
If you want quiet, grab an aftermarket.
Have any pics?

Thanks for the feedback guys.

This pipe destroys ear flesh at idle.
I wound it up and it was 180 dB or more.
Ants inside my head.

Half the guys in town will be deaf from sitting around drinking beer watching me work, well I have double ear protection and they have nothing but a beer in hahahaha...

Maybe a baffle to cut 30 dB off.

Will upload photos if I can shrink them enough

Hot wheels paint job my kid calls it.
I was painting my buddies tracker and decided to renew the old stihl paint with some poliurthane and clear coat as I was spraying the car.

The muffler is some 3/16 mild steel mig welded.
Had some stainless screen for the end of it to keep debris out.

Great looking saw!

My 090 has the stock muffler on it, but I leave the louvered cover off. I should probably get some screen on there.

It is quite loud though. I always have to have hearing protection on.
