You were right if you were goin to file the part of the key above the crank. He is right if you file the part of the key that sits in the the crank shaft

Thanks! That is what I was thinking of doing so I had it right the first time.

Not bad for a new guy huh. Figured it was about time I signed up here. These guys just want you to tear apart a perfectly good saw so you can cut the squish band, port the cylinder ,install a hd2 filter and dual port muffler. Lol

What's wrong with that?

guys...if ya don't mind ...

why not remove the key first altogether , find out the "degree" desired and file to that mark.
as we all know the key isn't really needed that much anyway and you can set different degrees quicker until you find the "sweet spot" then "port match" to that setting.

My boss always told me, "If you can't figure out how to take it apart.....then just ALL nuts and bolts out....and guaranteed something will come off." lol. 044's are Super easy to work on. Basically just take everything off you think you need to so you can get the cylinder and intake manifold off at one time. Once the cylinder is off you'll be able to see pretty everything you need to. Be sure to take a flashlight and check the bearings since you have it that far apart. I wonder if the wrist pin bearing is shot, but you'll find out soon. lol And then be sure to mod the heck outta it. ;)

I use an impact gun and put it on it's lowest setting and give it a few good impacts. Never had an issue yet. Course I ain't modified the key's either. lol
I've learned the hard way to leave the impacts alone when reassembling a saw!!!

I hammer the flywheel nut on pretty hard,I leave the plug out and the impact on high and let it spin.
I don't think 20lbs is quite enough.
