Got a free 029 super. No bar, plastics are good, no start, pulls over hard and kinda chunck chunck when you pull. Disassembled, cylinder looks decent to me as does the Piston. Only thing I can see is there seems to be a lot of play in the connecting rod on the crank but I'm not sure what it should be like. Is it possible that it's loose enough to bind on the crank and or for the Piston to migrate over against the cylinder wall?IMG_20190130_223005160.jpg IMG_20190130_222952444_BURST000_COVER_TOP.jpg IMG_20190130_222830411.jpg

Looks like you need a new piston and rings, looks like rings are stuck and mark on piston. look at your cylinder good and see if it has marks in it.If it does i would do new piston, cyl, ringsand seals.

Rings are not stuck nor are they broken but those marks on the side of the Piston gives me pause. Cylinder actually looks really good.

I had one last year that made the same noise. It turned out to be a worn bearing on the flywheel side causing the flywheel magnets to rub on the coil.

Thanks. Bearings seem good but I'll look for signs of contact. It's actually my son's saw and he was trying to put the cylinder back together and broke a ring...which makes me wonder if they weren't stuck/brittle. Now he's thinking he should just get a 390 top end assembly.

I put one together with a Cross 039 top end and did a MM. I put a 20" Tsumura bar on it. One of my neighbors tried it out and bought it an hour later. He didn't even try to haggle. He cut 2 winters worth of wood with it so far. I had to put a decomp valve on for him cuz he is in his 70's.

Put back together with cross performance 039 top end. New seals, fuel line, new decompress, cleaned carb, no start. Will fire if you dump fuel in spark plugs and but otherwise no fire. Any suggestions?

Vacuum pressure check, what sealant was used on the pan?

Sounds to me like a massive vac leak, vacuum is what drives the fuel “ pump”.

Also don't think the decompress is sealing right. You can hear air when you pull it over slowly even when it's supposed to be shut.
