My dealer is closed. I was hoping someone could give me an idea how much an OEM piston is for a 028 Super, PN 1118 030 2003. Thanks.

@blsnelling you wouldn't be ,on saws again, would you?
I certainly didn't intend to be!

While setting in church this morning waiting for a funeral to start, I found this nice 028 Super on the Facebook Marketplace. I messaged the guy and he agreed to hold it for me until 3:00. It was advertised in excellent condition. The guy had taken it in as partial payment for work he had done. They guy kept his work and I left the funeral dinner to pick it up in a suit, lol. I pulled it over slowly in his living room and it seemed to have compression. Shame on ME for not pulling the muffler or spark plug. I know better, but it wasn't convenient at all in my situation.

Here are the pics as from the add.

I didn't notice the paint on the handle until looking at it to buy it. No biggie, that'll clean right off. I could tell that the recoil and clutch cover hand't been painted.

Upon getting it home on the bench, I thought I just take a look at the piston. Uh oh! I screwed up!

I immediately messaged the guy the two pics above. He replied in just a few minutes and immediately offered a full refund. Not wanting to make the 30 minute drive back to his place, I told him I'd just rebuild it. The truth be told, I tore the saw apart immediately after finding the scored piston.

After disassembly this is what it looked like.

Here's where I am.

It's not perfect, but the one scratch is only barely able to be felt. I think I have a blister coming on my finger, lol.

Moral of the story... No matter how sweet the deal looks and sounds, do your due diligence or be prepared to pay the consequences. Fortunately, I'm still not upside down on this saw, counting my labor as free. A new piston and gasket/seal kit will have back in good order. Kudos to the seller for keeping his word in holding it for me and offering a full refund.

Is there not a gasket kit for the 028 that includes all gaskets and both crank seals, like available for many other models? I'm not seeing it in the IPL I'm looking at.

Around here a decent 028 Super brings around $250. What do you get for them in your area? I've got one I'm eventually going to sell but "not yet".

That piston is really roasted. I bought a saw that way one time, pull over compression felt normal and the seller assured me it was a good runner but didn't have fuel. Brought it home, couldn't get it started and found the piston looked like yours. It was pretty cheap though and I sold it for parts poorer but smarter.

Sold super I took in trade with 20" and 2 chains for $220. Was asking 250, cash in hand was king.
