First day of the firewood season for me,after a few months off and i had an issue with one of them(the other ran perfect) The idle speed on the chain was running too high,causing...

converting a standard stihl lightning to an S

Morning folks. Anyone here have experience converting a standard lightning to an S? I have several standards, and two spare S cylinders and pistons(dont bother with the PM's,not for sale) and i'm wondering if its as simple as swapping over the P&C? The heat shields wont match, but it may be...

    076-no spark.

I've got a low hour early 076,massive comp, but no spark. Was told its probably either the coil or the ignition module, both unobtainable. Is there an alternative option (i.e the Nova 11 ignition module etc) or a way of getting spark to what would be an excellent saw otherwise? Dont know much...

    Improvised chainsaw vice,old aussie trick.

Some of you may already know this one,but its a dead simple way to sharpen a saw at the correct height when out cutting. all you need is a saw,a wedge and a sapling. I use this all the time,it takes longer to describe than do. First, cut a standing sapling at least5 inches thick at around solar...

    Lancaster 325 Nifty?

G'day fellow saw collectors. I've turned up a little Lancaster, looks to be a 325 wildcat ,or a nifty, from comparing it to a friends Lancaster, but no ID plate or decals. Ive seen the minimal info on Mike Acres site, but am interested in knowing more about these, they seem pretty rare.

    Facebook chainsaw groups.

I've been active on some of the facebook chainsaw groups for the past year or so, but am quitting them, and facebook, and coming back to OPE more often. I met some pretty good people on those groups ,but also a lot of rip off artist's. I was recently ripped off by a saw dealer active on the...

open face notch? anyone use it?

I've recently got a copy of Jeff Jepsons excellent book "to fell a tree" Lots of good stuff in there, but i wasnt sure about his insistence on the open face notch. No-one I know out in australia uses it on our hardwoods, and I've never tried it,so i thought i'd give it a go. i tried it on a few...

Early Stihl 090AV,extremely low hour saw.

Here's one I picked up the other day. Bought by a fellow who went into a stihl dealers sometime late 60's and said he wanted the best(most expensive) chainsaw they had. Naturally, they sold him this. Of course,it was too much of a beast for him,so he kept it in the shed, started it up every now...

Stihl MS 661 CM,a bit lean?

I've got a fairly new 661,about 10 hrs use so far,and today it was a little harder to start than before. Didnt fire up after two pulls, and died a couple of times at idle. Running 33-1 fuel, using stihl oil. Pulled the plug, and it looked a little lean to me,so took some pics. What do you folks...

husqvarna 550xp vs Stihl ms 261

Was bragging about my Stihl 241 the other day to a young arborist, and mentioned that I would like to try a 261. He said that he had owned one,and that his Husky 550xp left it for dead. I know nothing about the 550,and would be interested in others opinions?

some thoughts on ported vs non ported Stihl 241cm.

I really like the 241's,my go-to limbing saw ,and excellent on green timber up to about 16 inches. my first one is a stock, muffler modded by Brad Snelling, which i have used for a couple of seasons, and the most recent is a Masterminded which has been ported,mm'd etc. At first,i couldnt tell the...
