    Forest fire trees

Thanks for your reply and your time in the fire service. I'm a captain on our volunteer dept and we do a lot of tree cutting in canyon fire situations so I know exactly what you mean about the air filters. In this scenario, I have permission from the landowner and the fire was several years ago...

    Forest fire trees

Curious if anyone has cut any trees following a forest fire? We had a huge fire in 2012 that left tons of dead standing trees. There's lots of oak and some ash in amongst the cedars and I'd like to start getting some of that for firewood. I usually use full chisel chain but was wondering about...

    ms 461r oiler

Seems like people don't have think the Tsumura needs it? I've not run it as much as the Stihl bar. I'll watch it more carefully next time I run it, but the last time I didn't think it was oiling any more than bare minimum. Hard dead elm and ash. Would have liked to see it slinging more oil...

    ms 461r oiler

Thanks for all the replies. I know I kinda switched issues halfway through the thread. Originally I was concerned the HO oiler on the R model would run out before the fuel. So far the opposite has been true and it doesn't seem to put out as much oil as I'd like. I'll try opening the hole on the...

    ms 461r oiler

Stihl and Tsmura lightweight both seem to run drier than I'd prefer. You just use a drill bit to open it up?

    ms 461r oiler

Are there any mods to increase the oiling with the stock HO oil pump? I've run a few tanks of fuel through this now and with a 28" bar and the oiler maxed it leaves the chain a little drier than I'd prefer and leaves maybe an 1/8 to 1/4 left in the oil tank. It will just barely spray any oil...

    Stihl 461 hot start

I actually bought some can gas to try and see if it makes a difference. I thought it was pretty fresh but I bet it's older than I think and almost certainly "winter" since winter only ended here yesterday...

    Thanks everyone.

    Stihl 461 hot start

Haha, nope. That would cause some issues though wouldn't it. Lol. I don't cut.much when it's hot but I'm going to see if I can make it do it again or just make sure it's cooled down before shutdown and refuel.

    Stihl 461 hot start

Tried it later this evening, fired right up and ran fine. Gonna have to see if this was a one time thing or something I'm gonna have to fight.

    Stihl 461 hot start

Yes on the fresh fuel. Probably didn't idle it before shutdown as I recall. Was cutting and then shut off to talk. I'll try it again this evening and see if she fires.

    Stihl 461 hot start

Thanks for the reply. I plan on putting a dp cover on it eventually. I was under the impression that these saws had a fuel geysering/vapor lock issue and that's why they were recalled. Mine should be post recall but still... stuff happens. What were the fixes for those that had the issues?

    Stihl 461 hot start

I'm sure there's other posts on this, but my Google Fu failed me. Saw is maybe 6 months old. Stock. Ran great through about 4 tanks so far. 80* today, bucking a huge elm, shut it off to touch up the chain, no restart. Or rather, start/die, etc like it's out of fuel. Not out of fuel and while it...

    029 super rebuild?

Also don't think the decompress is sealing right. You can hear air when you pull it over slowly even when it's supposed to be shut.

    029 super rebuild?

    Three bond.

    029 super rebuild?

Put back together with cross performance 039 top end. New seals, fuel line, new decompress, cleaned carb, no start. Will fire if you dump fuel in spark plugs and but otherwise no fire. Any suggestions?

    029 super rebuild?

Thanks. Bearings seem good but I'll look for signs of contact. It's actually my son's saw and he was trying to put the cylinder back together and broke a ring...which makes me wonder if they weren't stuck/brittle. Now he's thinking he should just get a 390 top end assembly.

    029 super rebuild?

Rings are not stuck nor are they broken but those marks on the side of the Piston gives me pause. Cylinder actually looks really good.

    029 super rebuild?

Got a free 029 super. No bar, plastics are good, no start, pulls over hard and kinda chunck chunck when you pull. Disassembled, cylinder looks decent to me as does the Piston. Only thing I can see is there seems to be a lot of play in the connecting rod on the crank but I'm not sure what it...

    28" Tsumura lite shorter?

Yes, I can get it to adjust. Just thought it was weird that it was that loose. It looks as though I'll run out of adjustment before the chain is done stretching/wore out. Just wondering if that was normal and it looks like it must be. Thanks everyone.
