Hi All,
I had the saw out again on the weekend. Since the last update re the oiler I also replaced the carb with another Chinese one. I couldn't get my original carb to idle any lower than 3500rpm. Upon inspection, the throttle butterfly wasn't sealing in the throat of the carb at idle...
Quick update on the Oiler mod I did whilst I had the saw apart recently - it’s now using about 80 percent of an oil tank per tank of fuel.
These photos were taken on the weekend and I made sure each tank was absolutely full before I started cutting.
I built this saw (and will probably build another) because its like Lego for grownups - and not much more expensive! I just love playing with motors and tinkering and stuff. And to get a powerful saw out of it aswell is a bonus. I intended on using this as a dedicated milling saw but recently...
I bought the OEM parts in January of this year to resolve the common fast idle issue but didn’t put them in as the saw still started relatively easily. Starts immediately after popping with the choke on now though.
This was a cheap and easy fix that I would recommend new builders do straight away.
All fixed now. I noticed that the OEM oil pickup seems to have a larger diameter bore than the farmertec one when I swapped them - so happy to replace it while I was in there. Oil pumps definitely pumping so now to put some tanks through to see how more I’m using post modification. Thanks...
"You can generally pull that line out with needlenose pliers and check it."
Yep, I did that and f*cked the hose (tore it). So i bought an OEM one at lunch today.
Thanks for the tips - i'll get this together tonight and see how we go.
"The tab should be in that void, but otherwise it looks OK"
Should it be in the void that also includes the screw? I.E if installed properly would the tab prevent a screwdriver being inserted? Or should it be in the void immediately to the right of the screw.
Ill look into the tank too.
PS...
Thanks Mike - I picked up the spares just now and will install tonight. Re the oil pickup line - can you have a look at the attached phone and confirm if I have installed it correctly? There is a little locating tab on the line, I was wondering if it should actually be hard up against the...
Ok, so lucky I’m anonymous online so I don’t feel too much like a goose for my oil pump cock up. As predicted above, the tapered cylindrical o ring was completely missing and I had actually put silastic on the inlet side of the pump. I took the opportunity while in there to do the oil pump mod...
Thanks heaps Mike. That’s reassuring to know. I can actually remember putting the pump in now, I think for memory I didn’t have the seal and used a tube of liquid gasket to make a seal as I could tell something was missing. I bet some has come out and lodged in the channel or something as i am...
Sorry for late replies - life getting in way of playing in garage.
Took the bar off today, blew everything clean and then ran the saw.
I can confirm that zero oil is making it to the bar. However - I can also confirm that oil is being pumped out of the bottom of the saw - so I know the oilers...
Many thanks. I’ll tear it down and report back. I noticed it hadn’t used anywhere near what I expected when I filled it up on Saturday. Maybe 1/4 tank and I think I used a whole tank to drain that much. It should use about one tank of oil per tank of premix yeah?
Cheers will do. Is that a common fault with the clones? I haven’t done much with the saw since I built it, it’s possible I cocked something up on install.
I took the saw out on the weekend to cut some firewood and I noticed that the Oiler isn’t working. I ended up overheating a chain after cutting for an hour. I’m not sure at this point if it’s not oiling at all or if it’s just making it to the bar. I cleaned the bar ports out but that didn’t fix...
Ha ha, yeah and this is the edited version. Some of the other stuff she took would induce motion sickness.
So you don’t reckon it needs further leaning out? How many RPM should it hold whilst In a cut?
Ok guys, here’s a quick vid of it running. Brown Barrel is pretty tough as far as timber cutting goes, but it gets much worse (Iron Bark etc). I reckon it could probably do with further tuning but keen for your thoughts.
Brendan
Hi Mike,
It was just from tuning the carb. Its probably still breaking in to be honest - ive only put four or five tanks through it. My 9year old daughter took some footage of me using it on the weekend but its pretty dodgy so will require a fair bit of editing before I can upload. I had...
Hi All,
So about a month ago a tree came down in my street. It was a government one but I wanted the wood so I took the 660 out there to get it. I didn't get a video because your technically not meant to take the wood I think, but I can confirm the 660 is running well now. I leaned it right...
