One of my 026 saws has a stock early muffler, and it is LOUD! Like my 036 was LOUD! From the factory. I used it today and it was loud even with ear plugs. My muff modded 361 is quieter.

Interesting. Here I can get a new 261 non-Mtronic for $610 OTD. No sales tax in Oregon. With Mtronic, the 261c-m is actually $30 cheaper! No arctic saws available here though. Cutting 2 weeks ago I wish I had kept my 361 VW Arctic saw. Burning cold fingers...

Well, the 036 is one of the best saws that Stihl ever made. If you want the same power with higher revs and a tad less torque (but the same rated HP) get a used Stihl 361. Way better AV. If you want a 70cc+ saw power but the 60cc weight, get a 60cc saw and have one of the guys here port it, like...

My 036 PRO had an open and empty can for a muffler body, and a LARGER side exhaust port than later models. It did not need a muffler mod. No spacer/flange on it. That saw was loud from the factory.
