    288 Piston in a 660

Don't have one...... Stihl shops sell them haha Only gets you a couple grams. Not really important unless you are chasing every last bit.

    288 Piston in a 660

use a tapered 880 pin and grind it to length. The husky pins are thicker and heavier

    288 Piston in a 660

I’ve done a few of these in the past I use an oem husky 288 piston. I don’t bother now unless the saw is getting finger ports but even then I just rotate the piston and leave exhaust width stock. The single ring is nice but added weight not so nice and wider exhaust and fingers just makes the...

    Saw video thread

Stihl 084 Ripping saw. Ran like death first try. Tried swapping coils, changing timing, still ran like crap, blowing fuel out the muffler. Was confident it was ignition so swapped out the flywheel in case magnets were bad. That fixed it. Before: After:

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

I tend to like less intake. I think people lower the intake chasing power, and it may work in sone cases but for how I port a saw, I find less works just fine with my porting. Remember it’s not just time to be considered. Area plays a big role in power band and more area can mean less velocity...

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

I will. I don’t think it’s just 5 series saws, I think it’s most strato saws that lack the low gear we got to like with older models. The thing I like about this saw is the smaller bore/longer stroke. Piston is only 49mm. In real hard timber this is an advantage. Saw is not as snappy but holds...

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

Yes that's all the known and widely followed guidelines, but its all too rigid, "walk between the lines or else" for me. I think there is more to the dynamics than that. Time will tell, it may fall on its face, but there was only one way to find out. At least I know the bearings are getting oil :)

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

It will be wearing a 20" bar, we don't run much more on them here as they tend to struggle a bit in our timber. Was having a laugh earlier thinking when I run it, I will then wonder how it would go with the stuffers installed haha

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

Runs nice Might be a while before it sees timber though, we are badly flooded here at the moment.

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

Yes I understand that is the traditional line of thought. The whole saw felt like it was geared around trying to make half decent power while being severely emissions restricted. The small exhaust port, 10 to 12 deg of blowdown and visible signs of burnt gas back feed into the transfers is odd...

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

Correction on stock timing It was 104/116/72 I took .030 out of band, squish at .022 Now at 101/116/74 Exhaust widened from 55% to 65% Intake and stratos just smoothest out and left stock I wanted more blowdown cause the uppers were full of black burn from exhaust gas backfill.

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

I didn’t know that. That explains why I had to trim the cylinder gasket to get it to fit properly…. All OEM. just about to cut the base. Timing is 102/116/72 stock…. Nice I doubt I will change it much at all

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

No that’s structural and the crank lobe sits there and is wider while transfers are open so no point. I don’t look at transfer feed as flow like water down a pipe, its more lots of short controlled puffs, we just need to improve the ability of that air to to flow at each puff. Too big a hole...

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

Yeah they do go good. I just rebuilt a non auto tune 576 for a friend that got cooked. This 570 is auto tune

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

Well…. I guess we may as well turn this into a bit of a build thread to follow along with progress. while the cases were split I took the opportunity to round out and smooth the restrictive lower feeds from the cases. Squared edges and casting lips gone. Not enlarged, just port matched to the...

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

I’m in Australia and out timber needs different porting and power curves. Yeah power is power, but where it makes it and how it spreads it across the rev range makes a huge difference in out hardwoods. Max peak power numbers are not the goal here. I’m just thinking outside the square on this…...

Husky 570 Crank Stuffers. Keep or Ditch?

Yeah but the 371/372 didn’t use them, nor do any of the Stihl saws. Something tells me they are not there to increase power. If they lower the pressure pulse of tge crank lobes pumping the front feed lowers, that would technically lower emissions
