Got the metering lever adjusted and tuned it to the best ofomy abilities. O have the idle set at about 2600 and the max rpm at aboit 11,500. I may bump the high idle after a few more tanks, but am happy with the current cut speed and power.
I did some cuts this week. I started with some...
Is there a specific depth setting for the metering lever. Should it be flush with the body of the carb or a specific depth below. I know they make a guage, but I'm not sure of the brand or model of the carbs that come with these kits and of course if I can get away with just using a straight...
It's running with no more fuel leaks.
To tune it I opened both h an l one full turn out from seated. I ran it at idle to warm up. The idle adjustment won't make the rpm go any higher than about 2700 at this point. I turned the L in until it hit the highest rpm which was about 3300 and...
Thanks for the replies! I removed the fuel line elbow from the grommet and pressed the fuel line grommet to properly seat it. It was definitely not seated properly. I then reinserted the elbow making sure the fat side went to o the grommet. After a minute or two of idling to build pressure...
I will give that a try. I just checked the local dealership to see if they had the parts but they do not and it will take 2 weeks for them to get here.. there aren't a lot of larger saws on the island. If all else failsIf all else fails I will pick up a vacuum elbow at the automotive store
The gas leak is coming from under the carb. I'm thinking it's from where the fuel line connects to the tank. Perhaps a small piece of new fuel line to test if that's the issue.
This afternoon I tried the following. I turned the L and H screws out one full turn. At this point the idle...
@huskyboy Yep! Not a toy Foy sure. I approach all saws as the dangerous tools they are. Chaps, steel toes, glasses, ear protection and sometimes a mask. If I feel tired I take a break or call it a day. The second you get overconfident, lazy, overtired or just lax around any power tool it...
Yep. It was definitely rich. When I went back to it after a half hour fuel mix had leaked out of the carb and down onto the handle. I'll get back to it in the morning. Don't want to harrass the neighbors so late at night. The neighborhood is just getting used to sleeping without the sweet...
Thanks. Ill give that a try. Sure is nice to hear it growl. My other saw is a little pp4818av I got at home Depot. My reason for the build was to take advantage of all the free lumber laying around after Hurricane Maria. I've been using my little poulan to make slabs etc of mahogany and...
So I finally got everything together and it runs, but I'm having a tough time setting the carb. I tried following the Stihl service manual. Turn both low and high one full turn out from seated. But at that setting the idle is at around 2800 according to my tach and the idle adjustment screw...
Problems and solutions to date:.
1) Magnesium machining flakes through out the case and bearings. Removed bearings and seals and rinsed case with non chlor brake cleaner.
2) New piston bearing from HLSupply has minor surface rust on the rollers. Jake from HLS assured me it's not a problem. It...
Hi guys,. I've found myself with a number of questions since beginningy first build, and rather than make a bunch of threads I thought I'd make one to pose my questions and also describe my build and the problems I've encountered from a first time builders perspective.
I've gone over a bunch of ms660 build videos in rep for my own build. The one thing that is absent in all of them is a torque wrench. Do you guys bother with Stihl factory spec torques on you fasteners during assembly?
Does anyone know the average and /max temperature a chainsaw crankcase sees (while running of course). I have a scratch in a ms660 seal bore and trying to decide if I should dirko it or use a steel epoxy. If I go the epoxy rout I would apply a tiny amount to the scratch, push an oiled seal in...
Thanks guys. One of the bearings has snagged a few time when spinning it. I blew some compressed air through it and it's spinning smoothly now, but I'm contemplating replacing it anyways since I'll be ordering the Hyway gasket pack from HLS tonight. The bearings are on sale for around $12 for...
Hi guys,
I've been lurking for a while and absorbing as much knowledge as I can. Thanks for all the great info.
I just recieved an ms660 kit and upon inspection I noticed a ton on aluminum shavings in the crankcase halves from when they tapped the bolt holes and it sticks in the nooks and...
