Decided to cut wood yesterday after not see any deer when sneaking around in the cornfield in the morning. Threw the 400 and 30/30 on the tractor and went to cut up an ash tree that had blown over last week down in the woods. Saw a deer jump up and saw it had horns but never saw it run out. Left...
Got a call. Want some wood? Duh. My son will be bringing it over in his trailer. Ok. It was a Bradford pear tree that a utility pole fell on. Never had wood delivered in a trailer pulled by a PRIUS!:jaja-no:It wasn't much but it was free.
Not a whole lot compared to round which is what I use most of the time. 3 round stihl chains run me about $60 and if I bought 3 hexa it would be about $80 ish. I filed the hexa but haven't cut with it since so I'm curious to see how it cuts now compared to right out of the box.
I like my Ferris and mechanically been trouble free but. I went with a 48" deck due to a lot of tight spaces here. I only mow when it's bone dry. The deck needs cleaned after every use and that sucks. My buddy has one with a 72" deck and mows 7-8 acres. I asked him how often he cleans his deck...
I bought a hexa chain Tuesday just for the heck of it. I'm just a firewood hack so if it's not that great I'll just go back to regular chains.I only handfile so I'll figure out the hexa file I guess. Probably gonna go on the 400 since I haven't been needing the 462 as of late.
Thanks for this thread Randy. I bought one back when my saws were stolen. Even though it's stock it's a tear ass saw. Prolly about 25 tanks thru it so far. Hope all is well in Jamestown. FS.
I had 4 saws taken 9/21/21 from my shop in broad daylight.
026 black lever with 18" worn bar and safety chain. Don't have the serial #
036 with dual dawgs, 20"bar in good condition. May be initials or 4 numbers etched somewhere on the saw but I don't remember which as I use both. Don't have...
Mine had the stock dual dogs on it. I can't tell from the pic. it also does not have the original fuel cap attachment. It has an old style type like on a 044. Not sure my saw could have made it that far north but ya never know.
Just my 2 cents since your asking. I have been running my stock 462 for a year with no problems. Running a 20" bar all of the time for firewood cutting. I'd say to look at where you can get the best deal/service if you need it. I probably have 40-50 tanks thru mine so far. Stihl on the...
Look up 55 chevy trucks. There is a first series and 2nd series. Chevy was draggin their feet and had to change body styles halfway way thru 55 to keep up with Ford.
