True Temper Flint Edge Hewing. Set this one up with a handle for two hands. The handle is from Council Tool for their Flying Fox. It has a little bit of swept back. I set the head to back of the haft to move the hands closer to the edge for more control.
Dunlap Hewing axe/hatchet. This has been the most work I've put into one so far. Full edge correction and fitting a handle on a head with pointed cheeks. Learned a bunch more and still enjoying my "winter" hobby!!!
Pickaroon from Menards. It had the same yellow paint on the lower half of the handle. I stripped the whole handle, sanded to 220, a coat of Golden Pecan stain and then multiple of BLO.
Handle refit. It was not installed correctly, loose and ugly. Pulled the old metal wedges (3...), refit with no ledge, slimmed the shoulder (was wider than the cheeks) and new rosewood wedge.
I'm really liking the Red Armor!!! I've ran about a gallon and half at 32:1 so far. Pulled the muffler on my boy's fixed up MS250 and it looks great. A nice redish film of oil on the piston and rings.
I just ran some Red Armor today (courtesy of @I saw a lot , thank you again). I went with 32:1 in my son's MS250 he and I fixed up. Figure a little extra insurance can't hurt. Doesn't smell bad and burns clean. Tunes easy.
@JB-PlantHeirloom Thank you!
That is the first handle I've hung. Took my time, made a few mistakes, learned a few things but it came out solid and looks good. It takes a nice sharp edge and swings nice. I spilt some oak with it. Worked great.
The Craftsman head will be up next.
