I really dislike these plastic carbs. All kinds of problems. There is a small brass jet in the white plastic piece inside the carb. You can drill it out just a little bit bigger if you have a set of micro drills. If you mess it up the white piece is cheap to replace.
When I want to mess with the 500 S&W guys I let them shoot my contender with 14" unported 45-70 barrel with a 405gr bullet over 55 grains of 3031. The load in a rifle will loosen your fillings. In the contender it is brutal.

Probably what I will do. I guess I shouldn't complain since it got thrown in for $100. If it was in good condition it would be worth a little more LOL

When I picked these up the winchester 30-30 was $100. Somebody drilled and tapped the other side for a scope mount and messed up the finish. Got all 3 for $1500. The 1895 is a JM Marlin. I figure I did OK.
Pretty much standard practice on the commands is to use a glaze breaker ball hone with new rings and a new style head gasket and it will be good to go.
Lots of recoil in a hogleg isn't a problem. You learn to let it roll roll up and not death grip it. My .44 mag super blackhawk with full power loads is fun to shoot.
