Newbie looking for help with Honda GX240 that won't run

The dripping carb is a bowl gasket issue that happened after I cleaned the carb. I didn't have a carb rebuild kit or carb gaskets. I'm not going to try to fix it at this point. If I'm not 99% sure I know what the problem is, I don't want to spend any more money on it. Since I don't work on...

I think it may be a false alarm. I didn't notice there is a a rubbery cap on the guide for the intake valve. That is what was grabbing the valve stem. I took it off and now the valve moves freely.

No, there is no hole - I think that may be a camera artifact or a reflection - I don't see it when I look at the piston.

If I try to move the valves now, it seems like the intake valve is sticking a bit. I should have tried it before I did the holding water test, though. Here is a video.

I took the fan off and got a look at the flywheel key. It doesn't look like it has been sheared.

A sheared flywheel pin would mean the flywheel spins on the shaft, right? It doesn't by hand, anyway, I can't turn the flywheel on the shaft. Or could it mean that it is stuck on the shaft at the wrong position? If I need to check that, what would I need to remove? I couldn't find any...

It holds water just fine. Here are some shots of the valve faces. The second and third pics have the valves rotated to show different sides.

I took off the head and all the valve parts. One of the 4 bolts is partially obstructed by the exhaust system, so I tried to remove the exhaust system, but the nuts are frozen and my 18V impact driver wouldn't budge them. So the partially obstructed bolt was difficult to get enough leverage to...

I guess that can't hurt now. What would I have to take off to take the head off? Would I have to take off the muffler. It looks like it wouldn't come off without a fight. The nuts look like they are rust/heat welded to the bolts. And what am I looking for once it is off?

I'm afraid this mystery will never be solved. I stripped the spark plug threads putting in the spark plug. I'm off to harbor freight to buy a new engine. Thank you all for your help. I learned a lot.

Thank you all for your insights. I didn't have time to work on this today, but I can address a few of your comments. I certainly didn't take the flywheel off. There was rust on the coil and magnet, but I cleaned them with 150 grit sandpaper. I haven't touched the mixture screw at all yet...

OK, I tried the spray bottle and I think the results are a bit more clear than my attempt ar dumping fuel in. The throttle was wide open, the choke was open, the fuel flow was open (not sure if that was how you wanted to see it. Since it doesn't want to run with the throttle open, it was...

Yes, I cleaned the main jet with carb cleaner, ran piano wire through the openings and then compressed air. And visually checked that I could see through all the holes. Well actually I visually checked before cleaning as well and I didn't see any blockages. I will try cleaning the mixture...

OK, all he says there is he is trying to start and I didn't see what he was doing. So I collected some fuel. In the fhe first video I started the engine on idle, it started up. I dumped fuel into the air intake. I'm not sure how much made it in, a lot spilled on the outside. The engine...

Here is a video of the rocker arm movement while pulling the starter rope. Spark plug disconnected. And a video of the rocker arms with engine running. Only the first 37 seconds is usefull. I couldn't get youtube to trim the video.

I put a new spark plug at the beginning of diagnosing this, mentioned in my original post. Before I posted the original post, I tried the things I knew how to do and not make anything worse - new sparkplug, fuel filter, fuel line, new chinese carb, make sure air filter not clogged, check gas...

I don't think you linked the video you think you did. They both do some basic diagnostics and then mainly focus on a cursory cleaning of the carb. I didn't see any dumping of fuel in the air intake.

As I said above, I did that level of cleaning in those videos and a bit more, like the sediment bowl and the carb passages I could access without removing the setting screws. I know I should do a full cleaning, but I'll have to wait till I get a rebuild kit or at least all the gaskets and...

Newbie looking for help with Honda GX240 that won't run

Yes, I normally start all my engines from cold with WOT and choke, then open the choke when it starts. I just checked the honda manual and see that is not the recommended procedure. I'll have to try to change a bad habit. Did I do any damage? This particular engine, moving the throttle from...

I saw that they both moved. Should I be able to tell just by looking? If I shot a video would you be able to see? I don't think this engine has a lot of hours on it. I got the splitter used, so I don't know for sure how many hours it had on it, but it didn't look like it had seen commercial...
