I normally cut on the homestead, but the state forestry opened up some cutting areas close to home. Hard to pass up good wood that is easy to get to.

Got the splitter out and
started on the rounds stack I’ve collected over the past few months. About 1/2 way done with some good Fir due up. Mostly Maple and Alder so far.

Don’t really have any wood to cut at the moment but tried out the .325 on a couple of small Alder branches. I think it made some decent chips and if anything may be a bit too aggressive for the little Shindaiwa 488.
Looking forward to trying it in some real wood.
I was thinking I would have to...
Thinned the wheel on the Simington but probably not enough. Figured I could always thin some more if needed after getting some more advise. Still struggling but after reading I understand it is better to error on the high side but give up some durability.
Trying to avoid making too much of a...
Just starting to try and learn the square grinding. Used to have a local guy who built big (with car motor) saws and was good with the square grinder. I would take my chains to him and was happy with the way they cut.
Mostly 3/8 chain but I see it can be applied to the smaller chains.
A lot of...
I purchased a used Simington grinder a while back and have only used it a couple of times so far. Learning as I go.
Originally I couldn’t adjust the up/down of the swing arm enough to keep the wheel from getting into the tie straps. Even so this did cut decently to my standards as just a...
My first chance to really try out a chain sharpened on the Simington grinder.
Cut well and made some decent chips and despite me getting into the dirt, it hung in there.
Hopefully things will continue to go so well.

Put a new salmon wheel on the grinder and tried it out on a old loop.
Don't know if I'm on the right track. Still getting into the tie straps.

Started collecting Shindaiwa equipment several years back. Managed to get some good deals from time to time and the numbers add up.
A pic of a few of my saws.

Clueless so please excuse the ignorance.
Playing with the Simington grinder.
First attempts were pretty much a disaster. I think the wheel was too thick so I dressed it using the angles set by the previous owner.
Still getting into the tie strap and out of adjustment to lower the swing arm...
I’ve been cutting some brush on a new woodlot.
I found this Airecut blade a few years ago and found they work great on the heavy blackberries. Will power through anything up to an inch around.
