    New saw, cant decide.

For what it’s worth on the bark box, I had one come apart on a saw I bought used. The welds cracked. I put a Jason Egan muffler on my 462 and it’s loud AF, but woke it up some. I did put the WCS fallers kit in it and it helped stiffen things up a little. I use the 462 the most since it is light...

How much can you fell/buck/split/stack by hand in a day?

My son has decided to start his own firewood business. He has already started for the future. He is 14 so I handle all felling. He and I both buck. I do have equipment to handle logs so that makes it easier. In straight red oak or similar, he can out split me! I don’t have it like I used to...

    Show off your tillers!

Do you mean BCS? I have worked in a few TB Horses over the years. We had one for years and dad let it go when we moved and he was over gardening. A retired coworker of mine has two in GREAT shape, but he recently passed away. His wife is still wanting to garden so I’m going to go get one and go...

    Show off your tillers!

Best investment for new ground! I have a smaller 732 that will run the rotary plow. Almost wish I went with a larger Grillo brand, but I also have full size tractors if I need them. Prices have gotten ridiculous, but what hasn’t?!? My son has been making a few dollars plowing gardens in the...

Clearing trees and brush - exc or dozer?

Depends on experience. I would opt for a good size hoe and stack/burn. I would also like a dozer as well for the smaller stuff and to move trees. What are they? What kinda root system? Do you have experience clearing?

Root Grapple vs. Root rake Grapple

THIS! I have a bent grapple from employees using it the wrong way, lol.

    Clone??

Nice one! Going good. The kids are keeping us busy with sports and work is wide open. I’m down a guy off with a new baby and we rented a Cat 299 with mulcher head for a month. Trying our best to get our 40 hours a week put on it. It was fun for the first day; but now we swap out at lunch...

    Clone??

I wouldn’t give half that for it, but I’ve got a 661 and 500. How you been brother?

    Clone??

I agree on the too high part! I was thinking the 660 had flippy caps until I did some more research. Most of my Stihls have them except “0xx” series saws.

    Clone??

A buddy found this 660 on FB marketplace. Looks suspicious to me. I messaged the guy asking for pics of the serial and some other things. He hasn’t responded back yet, lol.

    Tire chains

Well, after talking to our DOT contacts and seen what they run, we can get some on contract. I believe they are Pewag (sp?) brand made in USA. He is supposed to send me the contract list tomorrow. Pretty much he recommended at 4 link due to lower cost, square link 7mm with cams. That’s what...

    Tire chains

Thanks for the help. I think we settled on some. Now to get tire sizes for the ones that need them.

    Tire chains

Government agency vehicle so we can’t do that. We are also limited to what tires are available.

    Tire chains

Those are what I’ve ran for a while on my personal truck. I know a few shops that have the stud gun but we don’t have that much of a need here to justify getting extra wheels and tires.

    Tire chains

Thanks for all the info. I figured we had enough people on the forum that has dealt with snow chains more than we do down there. Tires are 285/70/17 Goodyear DuraTracs. I e been looking online and like you said, it comes down ultimately to price.

    Tire chains

They won’t pay for a separate set of wheeled and studded tires, even though that would be a solution. Like I mentioned, it would be on our WMA roads, so we maintain those.

    Tire chains

Thanks. These will be used mostly on hard packed gravel roads that turned icy. Exactly what we have now. On my area, I shut the gates each night so my roads are still snow. Many areas don’t have that luxury and there was a major accident yesterday and the guys had a hard time getting there. I’m...

    Tire chains

Living in East TN, we don’t have a need for chains very often at all, but we have been hammered this week by snow, that has now turned to ice, and now freezing rain, lol. I work for a gov agency and several of our guys have had to get out in this stuff for emergency responses. I am looking for...

    NEW! Volunteer Chainsaw Thread

I help out with a firewood ministry and our church does some cleanup local. I want to get involved in bigger, more organized groups, but I always get pissed and don’t go back, lol. Our church went down to Louisiana and did some storm cleanup, and I wasn’t sure about going. We had just switched...

When did the cost of Echo skyrocket?

My local farmers CoOp has one for $1100. Even the wrap handle version is like $1400. I would find a new dealer!
