I’ve been absent for the forum for the past year now, and in that time my life has changed quite a bit. I was once very keen on collecting rare/odd saws, but all they seem to do these days is gather dust.
here’s the list:
- British military green husqvarna 181SE with original case and...
I know which on my money’s on for the more technically advanced alloy, and it damn sure Ain’t Mahle. I’d go as far as to say the alloy KS used is probably still high end by today’s standards
If youre wanting to do bearings post case halves up if it’s worth it in postage and I’ll do them for you, I can get bearings for you on trade account at cost too.
I change seals on saws like this as a matter of course now, gives me the opportunity to clean off all the baked on crud and it costs about 8 quid for genuine seals
I know the feeling, this one has cost £80 for exhaust cover, plug cover, carb kit, chain tensioner and basic service parts! Absolute killer considering their value.
how do you find getting parts for these over your way? ive one in the shop at the minute that ive rebuilt but I can't find a damn clutch cover for it without buying the whole brake assembly. the rest of the saw is immaculate for a 1994 saw but the cover has a chunk missing
they're both stock, I probably should port them both at some point but I don't use "little" saws all that much, my ported frankenstihl 044 is my go to saw for most jobs!
I’d pick up my 026 any day of the week over the 261, i can honestly say I’ve used the 261 twice since I got it and that’s only because someone else was using my 026!
I honestly couldn't say, I just know that I've had saws in of the same year that one has been absolutely toasted and the other was perfect, maybe the bad heat treat was a "batch" issue?
from the 261's I've had across the bench I've seen the cranks fail even with AM quality metal caged bearings fitted from new and properly greased, so there must be some truth in the soft crank rumour!
