    Trees you've cut

Any pointers on filing semi-chisel are appreciated. I’ve filed it twice now. The hickory understandably dulled it a bit, Saturday. I filed it Sunday in the shop before dealing with some ash and a great big standing dead black oak. Did it the best I know how and used the Stihl progressive...

    Trees you've cut

I don’t have any pics and my commentary isn’t worthy of its own thread. Bucked up a big blow down hickory this weekend. Probably at least an 80 footer. My first experience with RM chain, have always run full chisel previously. Bought a loop on a whim a while back. I don’t think I really...

    Youth/ Beginner chainsaw

Nice suggestion. Is that a mag case or plastic?

    Youth/ Beginner chainsaw

261 would be sweet. Not wanting to get in too deep with this first saw until I see how his business works out. He’s 13 and attention span is mighty short.

What kind of mods to fit the stihl bar to the echo?

    Youth/ Beginner chainsaw

Good point on the Echo. Quite a few places that sell those around here. Problem with a small-ish used saw is that folks tend to want nearly new prices for them. I scratch my head all the time at asking prices for beat up ms170s.

    Youth/ Beginner chainsaw

Have a 13 year old son who has started a little firewood business with a buddy of his. I’ve been doing all the felling/bucking, they split/stack/etc. Thinking about getting him started on a chainsaw. My MS362cm will be too much for him. We will of course take a lot about safety and PPE and...

    Keeping bar level

Good point. Guess I never thought about using that sight that way. I use the flywheel sight to aim the tree of course. I guess that top sight could be brought in parallel with the tree trunk and more or less level the cut too.

    Keeping bar level

Shoot, I thought I was just a total moron for not getting this right. It’s helpful to know that others are similarly afflicted. Appreciate all the comments. I figured it was a muscle memory thing. My approach thus far was trying to let the saw hang loosely from my hand and find a spot...

    Keeping bar level

I kinda suck at getting the bottom of my face cut level. And also suck at getting the back cut level or at least in the same general plane. Any tips other than just more practice?

    Pole Pruner recommendations

I’ve owned my Harbor Freight Lynxx for 2-3 years, use the heck out of it....and it does t what I need it to do. No kidding.

    Ms362 acting up

Just for clarity - saw is about 3 years old, not 5. I pulled the muffler last night and the piston and cylinder look good. I was about to throw in the towel and take it into the dealer (who is awesome, BTW...old school saw shop). Called him this morning....he actually suggested changing...

    Ms362 acting up

140-150 compression warm with throttle held open on half a dozen pulls. I will take a peek at the piston and cylinder later this evening.

    Ms362 acting up

Well, the solenoid didn’t fix my problem. Saw just won’t hold the rpms like it used to. Seems to get a little weaker as it gets warmer. (Coil?) I’ve got a compression gauge. Should I run it on a warm saw or cold?

Is there a number I need to look for?

    Ms362 acting up

How does a guy know which of the calibration/reset procedures is right for his saw after a solenoid replacement? My manual spoke to the 90 seconds on choke and then immediate shutoff. I guess that’s right? Purchased this saw in 2018 and it has the newer style side cover. Wend out and made a...

    Ms362 acting up

It was. I kinda thought I’d have to pry them out but until you confirmed I was thinking I might tear something up.

    Ms362 acting up

Got it! Thanks! Never been this deep into a ‘puter saw. Kinda cool how the carb just floats in the middle of that apparatus.

    Ms362 acting up

Ok, got my part and a free evening to replace the solenoid. How does a guy get the black air filter assembly to separate from the rubber mounts on the side? I’ve removed the two nuts that hold it to the carb studs

    Ms362 acting up

All the basic stuff is good. Saw gets used regularly. Non ethanol fuel. If it sits for even a few weeks I dump the tank.
