    Jonsered 52/52e

Good job resurrecting another 52/52e. One thing I’ve done when the cone shaped antivibe bushings on the rear handle get a little slop in them, put a few wraps of electrical tape on the tapered part..smooths the saw out some. Treemonkey ported a 52e for me several years ago and it runs...

    Jonsereds Fuel Line Size

Anyone remember what size fuel line for the old 52e, 70e, 90, etc saws? Good source for it? Can’t remember and the line I had on hand is gone.

    New saw 462 vs 500i

    462. You’ll likely find that your big trees are fewer than you think and you’ll be much happier with a more nimble saw with a 24” bar. Once you run the 462 you’ll park the 290. If down the road you still need a larger saw pick up a 90cc class saw.

    044 P/C Aftermarket or OE?

Thanks, it seems Meteor might be the best option for aftermarket. I’ve skimmed many threads over the years about farmertec, hyway, nwp but never paid enough attention to know if they are a viable option and it seems the manufacturing quality seems to change rapidly in both directions.

    044 P/C Aftermarket or OE?

Are there any good quality after market p/c kits out there or do you have to stick with OE? Not sure what the current state of the aftermarket world is. No big bore, just a good standard bore replacement.

    Vintage Chainsaw Museum

Sure thing, I’ll get some posted when my better half shares some photos with me. Amazing museum you put together Mark, it was a pleasure to visit! A little background for the forum, I turned the big 4-0 last week and to celebrate we spent a four day weekend visiting some of Iowa’s museums as...

    Shop supplies ........ Ouch$$$

Trillions of printed dollars and simultaneously shutting down the entire world economy for a year or so. Very surprising there are problems associated with that!

    Homemade Cases, Scabbards

Custom scabbard served as inspiration for my 111s name…Colonel Angus, “wears you out but always gets the job done!” Old firehose has worked great for the 42” bar over the years, I know others have done the same. Great looking 075, that’s a keeper for sure.

    Treemonkey 500i

Great running saw…but to bury a 32” bar like that and cut with the grain in what looks like white oak, that’s pro level *s-word as the kids say. Chain, powerhead, operator need to be right on and it appears they are!

WANTED 2171wh, 2172wh, Clean saw, bad P/C ok

Looking for a clean 2171 or 2172 to rebuild my 2171 that’s pretty well clapped out. Want to put my ported cylinder on it. Heated Handles required. Missing some parts ok just need a fairly complete saw, especially a good top cover. A unicorn I know but worth a shot! Thanks

    Gloves. Leather

http://geierglove.com/elkskin-445.html Elkskin 445 is hands down the best leather work glove I’ve found. Coincidently it’s the same glove that Aerostich sells for motorcycle riding and it makes the best glove for that too. Try a pair, I have large to extra large hands, the 9.5 fits me well

Why is a wide nose bar better?

On a sprocket nose bar your chain drivers are held in the sprocket so nothing should be contacting the bar nose itself…unless you’ve got some major wear issues. As for longevity, I’ve never had a sprocket bearing fail (large or small nose radius) before the bar groove got slopped out. Your...

    Talk me out of .404

I run my 111s with .404 noodling big rounds and that big kerf has me buried in shavings in no time! Almost seems wasteful but it’s sooo fun.

    Chain sharpening for beginners

Lots of great points already made, great thread! I’d add that most people are sharpening with dull files. They should be bought by the dozen and disposed of frequently.

    What’s STIHL’s deal?

Bragging about dealership standards and then letting box stores and John Deere dealerships handle their full line. What a bunch of hypocrites.

    Buying A Chainsaw At Auction?

Never seen a saw that wasn’t complete junk at the farm auctions I’ve been to. Not to mention any Amish will bid on a non running saw as if it were fully serviced and ready to rock. Could just be my area though.

If a Jonsevarna guy was to try a Steel...

I wore out a 2171 and replaced it with a 462. I have to admit it’s a worthy replacement. Recently found a super clean stock 2171 and now I take both to the woods set up with 24” bars. Run one out of gas and then grab the other. Always grab the Jonsered first for some reason though.
