I'm really new to porting. I have fixed a lot of saws but want to try my hand at some basic porting. Just wanted a suggestion which cylinder might give the best performance ( mahle or ks) or doesn't matter. Thanks to everyone for any response.
I hope my response to this thread is ok. I need some advice. On the left is a good used mahle cylinder. On the right is a new ks cylinder which one would port or does it matter. Looking for the best performance.
Put in new seals too much work not too. As for sealant your choice. I use different sealants depends on what I'm doing.When it comes to clam shell engines I use Stihls sealant Dirco.
Building an 036. This one will start life with a set of farmertec cases, OEM crankshaft and cylinder. It will have a tillitson carb and an OEM fuel tank/ handle housing. Hope to get started soon on porting.

I had a couple saws I worked on in the past that would not idle correctly( ms310...026) after carburetor cleaning and new diaphragms, vacuum and pressure check unstable idle drove me crazy. Both saws took new piston and rings to fix the problem too much wear on intake side of piston skirt.
