I'd almost be willing to bet my paycheck that what you're hearing is nothing more than your engine hitting the rev limiter. It just sounds different in a 4-mix.
You have to have it adjusted perfectly to you. Mine are adjusted that when I'm using it, both my arms are all the way down. The only fatigue is my grip strength.
When you're trimming and there's windows 2 ft off the ground, or you're trimming around vehicles, you definitely don't want to run that thing wide open.

I tried out this line yesterday and I really like it. It cuts like a pair of scissors and is totally quiet when it's swinging through the air. It's x-shaped but twisted.

I had the dumb idea to try to use canola as a hedge clipper lube. Over the winter it hardened so badly that I had to completely disassemble the two blades and clean them with kerosene before I could get it running again.
