With 2 stroke saws the mix needs to travel through bottom end first, unlike a 4 stroke car. So I am guessing direct injection for that would be a injector in the crankcase?

I try to explain it:

On the TS 500i: The injection valve is bolted onto the cranckcase. On the MS 500i it is a little bit different.

On the MS 500i:
First, there is the air filter sitting on the air filter base. After the air filter base comes the throttle shutter. If you push the throttle trigger, the throttle shutter is opened and air (more air) can flow through it. This throttle shutter is based onto the tank housing and after that there comes the air intake manifold. That manifold goes through the air guide shroud on to the injection housing. The fuel injector is bolted onto this injection housing and injects the fuel into it. This injection housing is bolted on the cylinder intake. The incoming air into the injection housing takes the injected fuel and goes together with the fuel into the cranckcase.

How is the power band on both saws? Is the 462 like a 441, and has a narrow powerband?

I did not think either one has a narrow power band, and I did lots of milling with my 441, but it was a carb version (not M Tronic).

When I milled the Ash logs for my cabin I only owned 2 saws, my 044 and a 441. The 441 was under warranty, so it got to do most of the milling. Never had a problem with it.

I don't follow or get into snow mobiles. I knew they had direct injection but the time pumped location specific oiling and variable port/valve timing I was completely unaware of. That's some awesome stuff!

BRP uses the same technology in the ETEC line of Evinrude outboard boat engines. They’re badass

Yes in order for it to work it would have to be directed directly into the crank case in a chainsaw unless the saw was a 4stroke.

Why couldn't you apply the ETEC BRP technology to a chainsaw? 20 years ago you could have never had a fuel injected chainsaw. Technology can be made smaller cheaper and lighter over time.

I still can't figure out why the R models aren't listed with a light bar option in the catalog.

Considering you westcoasters are the majority of R model purchases and run longer bars.

When you get that figured out, work on why we can't buy heated Stihls here.

I may give the 500 some time to be out, and see what people think about it once it is released in the US. Maybe there will be some differences in the US and Euro model programming. Who knows, I may decide to get a 661.

Looks like the 500i R has the option and the 462 above it but the glare kinda obstructs it. Maybe not in every area though

Because the price difference would give you a stroke.

My dealer doesn't even have the option to order the 462,461,661 R models with a light bar. Makes no sense.

Why would the price difference give me a stroke ?
The price difference between r an standard at least at my dealer is insane almost cheaper to get the West coast cover and handle bars and felling dogs separate but that's here not saying that's going to be everywhere.

You're getting hosed.

It's 30 bucks more to upgrade to an R model for me.
