80EB7289-30AB-4825-AEFD-66A9A0DB3A70.jpeg I picked up this 61 and going through it found what looks like a cylinder / case mis match.
The gasket seems right for the case, but the cylinder has these semi closed ports, that are also choked by the gasket.
Pretty sure top end was replaced with something available.
Can someone tell me what I’m seeing here.

Wrong gasket. Jug looks like a 61 jug being OP.

The gasket seems to match the case. Not the jug. There’s no channels on the case to match the jug.
Is that what wasn’t meant to happen or am I seeing it bassackwards?

Won't matter much what gasket you use. If it seals the jug to the case...in your case is, good enough o_O
No flow there :(

Now lets just slow down a lil before we start saying things r mis matched. I just happen to be working on a 61 as we speak and was thinking the same things. Maybe this is a factory issue. Could this saw benefit from a lil case grinding? R the transfers restricted for a reason? U can see clearly the marks from the pics as to what is being blocked. Tons of questions with this......im glad this thread was started:thumbsup:image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

I'll give you a straight answer. With a factory choked up muffler this flat spot stops transfer port reversion to the main bearings and seals. If you open the muffler and shorten blow-down all that goes away. So now you know why that would not be good for a stock saw. "I'll just match the ports while I'm here." That may well work but you better open up the muffler to let out the pressure.
6401 looks about the same if you cut the case off just above the bearings. Deets has good pics of this shelf on the 665 Solo he built. I don't remember the thread name.

This arrangement also washes the conrod and wrist pin with fresh charge during reversion.

Sounds like it makes sense but im lost. Lol! This is the first time ive heard about transfer port reversion. I had no intention of case grinding cuz im sure the factory would of done it already. Just the only thing u could do to make it flow better considering the OP configuration.

Open up the muffler to a dual port. Ignition timing advance.
Run it.

Cool! I see ur case is full of fluid. How did u manage to keep shavings out of the bottom end? Im thinking i could steal some playdough from the kids to seal it off.
Diesel ...then shop vac ...rinse and repeat ...I had rags stuffed around Conrod while grinding
