What size saws do you guys run 404 on? I thought about a 20" 404 setup for my 7910 but people keep telling me the saw will struggle with 404. Would just be a dirty trash wood setup.
25” full comp 404 RS squared with ported 70cc saws and larger with 36”

It’s not the fastest setup, but it’s far from struggling.
Gotta get a few sharpenings in, stihl 404 RS is grabby outta the box
It lasts if you’re smart with how you use it..........

very very grabby

I can see how guys have tons of time into pure race chains. I have 2 hours into this just making the cutters even, filing the gullets back and trying to square up the cutters.
All I want for Christmas is a dozen double bevel files.

I plan on getting a 24" 404 setup for my stock 64/7910 to try out. It pulled a 32" full comp with an 8 pin through maple, so it ought to be able to handle 24" 404, at least in my mind. Nate(@fordf150) had one he kept set up with 404 for noodling, but I can't remember if it was 20 or 24. Perhaps he'll chime in and share his thoughts. P.S. Nate, I need a 24" 404 bar and a few chains, I'll be calling you soon.

Noodleing using a 7900 with 404 24"B/C is one of life's special little pleasures.

So I've heard. I plan on using it for dirty firewood duty with more steep angled square ground if you know what I mean. Won't need to cut fast, just stay sharper longer and still be square and smooth.
