I imagine the distance between the pin and the dome would be a factor also, not all of them will be proportional.

If you are expanding at X%, the distance will matter.

FYI, just based on my own fears and nothing else, I shoot for .020 on my saws, will live with .017/.018, but any less I put sandpaper on a piston and try to increase the squish. I would just rather be safe than sorry.

Really? You absolutely sure you measured correctly?
I knocked my ported 700 down to .040 and no issues for years
Yes. I use super soft solder at the wrist pin edges roller the motor over several times to make sure it is accurate. Your 700 was three 233cc, my 440 twin 0r 220 cc a hole, I kept tighten the squish on that motor in testing, at .029 it left light rings on the outer edge of the piston and dome of the head, so I keep it in the low .030’s now, same thing on the cr500, at .045 it lightly kissed so I keep them at .050 now.
I haven’t pushed a saw to kissing the dome, so I don’t know the limits .017 is the tightest I have ran, and no issues

Yes I agree, I haven’t tested the limits of saw, probably won’t, but it is good to know guys aren’t having issues at .015-.017, I will feel more confident setting stuff up at .017

Would be no biggie to make a gasket out of a piece of paper and get it in the low .020"s.

Should I run a hone through this thing to put some crosshatch back in it before I put it back together or just go with it ?

Kind of wish I would have went 1/4" or 5/16" wide on my muffler mod opening. Felt like I lost some torque but the timed cuts say I picked up a full second. Cutting 18-20" elm in about 11.2 seconds. 20" bar hand filed semi chisel. Wish I could upload the video.

Base gasket delete ended up .020 on the dot.
Added second port on the muffler 3/8x1"
Took .017 off the flywheel key.

After the base gasket delete you ended up at 0.20?
