Would you buy a 5105 if you already have a 42 special and a 6100..

Title as is. I'm trying to make a logical decision with buying a 5105 (well the Makita 5030) when I have a super light weight 42 and my go to 6100.. don't know if it will make either of the other two redundant or if it will just gather dust. If either of those two may happen then I don't want to buy it.

Cheers in advance.

Seriously though, it just depends on what you expect out of them, power, your tolerance for weight, etc.
Is it a great deal that shouldn't be passed up or just meh?
A 5105 does sit squarely between your other two saws so may be a bit of a close fit.

It's always nice to have choices...

I'd sell your' two and pick up the 5105 and then a 7900.
Well... actually I'm full of *s-worde, I'd keep all four...

Hahahaha. I wish money was no object. I also have an 064 if that makes any difference. TBH I think I've had too many saws through my hands and to many I shouldn't have got rid of. But the 6100 is not going to go anywhere. The 5030 is £90 all in and in half decent shape.

Don't know what's going on with this Tapatalk app. I can't upload pictures. But yes £90.02. hope it doesn't have any gremlins.

Will you be doing a lot of limbing? Maybe get a nice 30cc saw, that's around 10lbs wet with bar and chain and have the 5105 and 6100.

If it were my scenario, I would get the 5105 and still have the other saws, just like previously mentioned. The 5105 will act as a backup to your 42, or vice versa. Personally, I always take three saws with me. One large and two smaller ones. The smaller ones usually for bucking and the large for big cuts here and there. Been in the woods a few times where my bucking saw decided to have a day off while in the field and had to use the big saw to finish the work. Wears me out quicker.

Anywho, get the 5105. Can't go wrong with it and have fun, plus it looks like the price is right [emoji6]

I have all three 42, 6100, and a 5105. One won’t replace the other, but each has a niche. I’d say at that price you should buy it, and if you didn’t like it, you can always get your money out of it in the end.

I had both 5105 and 6100 both ported ended up selling the 6100 . I use ed 5105 up to where I needed a bigger saw skipped the 6100 went to a 70cc or bigger at that point.
Yeah I find a 60cc saw to be too niche for my use as well. Strong with a 20” in brushy timber, but not enough torque or oiler for felling all day with a 24” buried in hardwood. I do like a hot 60cc for firewood though, they will pull a 24” for the reach bucking logs if your not too ham fisted and don’t bury it all the time. Light and great on fuel.

Cheers guys. Just waiting on the seller to actually respond as I am not keen on buying of eBay without getting an email before. To many times things have not been as the advert suggests. But I will hopefully be a 42, 5030, 6100 and 064 user.

No I don't do much limbing. There is a 4 acre wood that needs thinning at my mates farm soon. The rest is arb waste and the occasional trunk or big limb from family farms to mill for live edge boards.
