My MMWS 462c running full throttle w/20" bar buried in oak will constantly fight with the rev limiter.

Either chain like mike said or the ignition timing is advanced too far.

Any vids of the saw doing this in the cut?

Ignition advanced too far?

I guess I don't get what you were implying? Too far would slow it down right?

I think it has to be the chain. My stock 2188 could run a pretty aggressive 20" chain.

When you advance the timing too far, it will pop in the cut. Detonation/knocking.

Ok. I have heard a slight knock in my 2188 when it was new until I switched to 93 octane.

If you are on the rev limiter, the saw is too lean.
Depends. Most saws these days have rev limiters and in stock form usually like to be tuned just to the point where the limited coil starts cutting in. Or just under it. In modded form they have to be tuned past the limiter in the wood, where they make the most power to get the best results. There’s no power gain with unlimited coil, just ease of tuning is gained. A limited coil does save on the crank limbing or from excessive rpms from idiots, which is why saws have them now. Durability.
