That's a problem for several reasons .First would be finding the parts and secondly the cost of labor could quickly exceed what the saw is worth . Then again that holds true for a lot of things besides chainsaws .

An example I have a super 44A that had a 24" bar with a worn out chain before I had the internet .Off to a one time McCulloch dealer who now sold Stihl .A loop of Stihl .404 chisel was 45 bucks and the dealer said he wouldn't put that much money in that saw ,which BTW was none of his business .Then he bragged about winning 49 of 50 feature races using the MC 10 kart engine version of that very same engine in his go kart racing days Go figure ! :)

Then again it may only need some fresh gas and the points cleaned. Woulda taken all of 2 minutes to at least check for spark and compression.
I thought the same thing. And even if it was 100 bucks. Cheaper then a new saw. But maybe he was hoping to sell him a new one.

I did pull it over, and compression felt excellent. Air filter was gone, gas cap was welded on by old fuel, so I'd expect it would need fuel system gone through. Had a tillotson carb, so parts would not have been any problem. If it were my call, I would have at least tried to fix it for him. Would make more sense than some of the plastic junk we work on.

Well first of all I'm not bad mouthing the dealer but many will not repair a saw they didn't sell in the first place .Those are the ones I get to turn wrenches on and I don't advertise .Most I might say really don't need much done to them .Try taking a 1966 Honda 305 to a Harley dealer some time . Just saying !
