036 oiler

I am not familiar with Stihl saws as this is my first real Stihl. Had a MS180 back in my poorer days. I put an 036 adjustable oiler in my 034. I set the adjustment screw square in the middle. I want more oil. CW or CCW to increase flow?

The direction should be on the bottom of the case right at the hole where you put the screwdriver in.
I believe you want to turn it CCW.

No markings on the case. I had to dremel a hole in the case for the adjustment screw as the 034 had a non-adjustable oiler. The oiler is for an 036.

Hey farm boy better stick to farming.
1. the case is not marked for non adjustable pump model saws.
2. The adjustment screw is clockwise to increase flow.

Pretty sure it’s marked on the tank, not the case, on 1125’s. It’s possible that the early non-adjustable 034’s had no marking, probably why the OP is asking.

They had many oem variations over the years. The oddest I’ve seen was an 034S adjustable pump with no cam type screw, just a flat/pan head that needed to be rotated clockwise for more oil. The case acted as its counterclockwise stop, and it could do 3-4 revolutions to max oiling. And it was 100% oem. The inside portion of the screw was shaped like a lightbulb with a tit on top. The more it went into the pump body, the less it limited the lower ramp of the piston.

Never held a non-adjustable 1125 pump in my hand.

Thank you very much. That's exactly the case. It's a standard 034 which had a fixed oiler. The pump blew apart and was told the original pump was NLA and replaced by the 036 adjustable. I had to modify the case for clearance / access. Good people here.

If you're using that stiff OEM oil line, it can kink at the first bend if it doesn't have the spring inside. Would obviously restrict the flow substantially.

The spring is there. It's oiling, just not as much as I would like to see. I started in a neutral center position. Would rather know how this one works rather than guessing wrong and running dry until I figured that out.

If you're still not sure, just take the bar and chain off and see which direction does what at the extreme positions of the knob. Should be fairly easy to determine.

I had an early 034, non adjustable oiler, no hole or marking on case. They do exist, I think the pump used a steel pin to act on the ramp.

Stihls are opposite from most. In, or clockwise, opens the oiler for more flow
