Progressing on these 361 slower than a slug. Got the exhausts roughed in and had to stop.

A lot of room for exhaust widening if you lose the bottom ring. The oem piston skirt is actually >70% which is rare for the Stihls I generally work on.

The open port jug sure seems like a waste of time. The port areas are tiny compared to the closed port and the secondaries aren’t exactly in a great spot. Look at their relation to the intake port roof. Could easily add boost/fingers though.

Also, both of the closed port jugs came in at around 106* ex roof with the machine work and the open jug was 99* with the same cuts.

Really thinking of round filing the open jug, but I’ll see how it runs first. May be tossing a 49mm NWP big bore in the mix here.

Is it still impossible to get a replacement muffler for the 084?

Check parts section here. Swear I just saw a nos choked down version for 3bills. I would gut it being it was the tube version.

Heck maybe it wasnt here. I visit to many places to recall.

Last new one I saw, the dude was asking $300.00

You could fabricate one, or have someone fabricate one

Not too bad if you have a friend with a laser table and a tig welder. I made 10 and sold them all for $220 or so each and could have sold probably 25 more.

Thanks for the replies chaps, fortunately the muffler on mine is in great condition and is completely original. What I have done is send it to my brother in law who is a specialist in CAD Industrial design. He is going to draw it up and see if he can replicate it as close as possible in flat sheet stock that can then be cut in a CNC machine and then folded and welded. I might start a thread on it.

That would be awesome. I did the flanges laser cut and everything else I bent myself and then welded

Added a second port to the 2159!

This saw has been base deleted and timing advance. How much of a gain would a 357 p&c be? For those of you who have done that.

Not stating this as a fact, but the ones I have the 357 cyl on. Are more lively, responsive and hold high rpms better. The 2159 that t4 (mike) did for me is a exceptional runner for a 359 cyl. So they can be made to run real well too. Lately I have been running the hyway 47mm 357/359 p&c. Been pretty stout right out of the box. They are ported like the 357 but have the larger bore of the 359. Have one with a bg delete, fish gilled muff mod and a 1/4 key advance and it pulls a 20" in elm/hickory damn good.
