Will find out today, needed to dig out my small socket set to pull muffler. Got to dark last night to get to it safely with the reorganization going on.

While you have the muffler off you can determine the bore diameter with a drinking straw(if you don't live in California that is) by inserting it in the port to the other side of cylinder and rolling the piston up enough to make a crease or mark on the straw that then can be measured to see how many millimeters across it is.

Well there is some scoring on the exhaust side of the piston so I pulled the cylinder to see the damage, the cylinder will clean up fine and be usable. The piston needs to be replaced, and has a fair amount of coarbon built up on top. The bore measured out at 48mm.

That should be a little sweet heart. I believe it is a 630 Jonsered cylinder most likely. A new windowed piston and you should have a nice saw.
Try and find out why it burned up so as not to repeat.

Hm... if you want a good reliable saw, get a meteor piston and replace the crank seal. Those are not expensive and easy to get..

Found some stuff online saying the + meant it was an oversize bore. Do you know anything about that. Also on a site not to be named, there was a 48zn3 that came off of the guys 630 super. Definitely time to start searching for a piston. Seals would definitely be a good idea as an insurance policy if nothing else.

Finally got the chance to give the little 440 a workout today. The idle was set too low, which is typical in my experience. That corrected, I tried it out on a dead but not rotten hardwood trunk of 6-12" diameter. Seemed be set a little lean, which is not surprising. Fortunately this saw uses the common spline type driver on the carb so I just opened it up a bit at a time until it seemed to run properly to my ears. Over the course of 40 minutes I would guess I opened both sides about 25%. I also don't think this saw is anywhere close to being broken in, it seemed to only get better with each cut. The 16" Husky X-Force bar and Oregon 20BPX chain are well matched to this saw, and it has no trouble keeping them oiled even in extended cuts on the thick part of the trunk. Very happy with the 440 so far!

I just saw one with a few extras including a power box on CL for 500 so you got a great deal, I didn't know they went up that much in price lol.

Lowe's and TSC have them for around $300.00 every day. $150-180.00 seems to be the going rate for a decent used one. Considering mine probably had just a couple of hours on it, I'm satisfied with $175.00 for it.

This and the Echo CS-400 are brothers from different mothers in many ways. About the same size, price, and performance. Main difference I can tell is, the Echo is a standard engine design while the Husky is strato.

Real easy to do on those saws. You'll also want to replace the 'O' ring under the oil pump.

My uncle has a 61. It’s a grey top. Bought it new late 80s I believe. I was a kid at the time. That is still his primary firewood saw as of now. That speaks for the reliability. It has never been opened up and has had very little to no maintenance done. He just runs it. By my ears it’s always on the verge of to lean to. Little to no 4 stroking once hot. I’d run it a bit more fat if it were mine but it keeps on cutting.

These older saws were amazing for the abuse and neglect that many seem to have seen, and are still kicking. Businesses wouldn't know what to do if they still followed the same practices that thwy did even 20 yrs ago. Heaven forbid something was actually built to last and make others want to get the same saws as their role models.
