That wasn’t so difficult, took less time to grind off the 4 small welds than it would to cut the front off the birdcage or open it up. Which I’ve tried before. This was a 6421 cat muff. I’ve been working on a new style muffler mod. Still big, but a little easier to make. I think it’s a winner.

Looks big. How much time soup to nuts?

1x1.5", but the screen area is 1.5x2". No need to take the screen out, it's not the most restrictive part.

First one took probably 2 hours, next only took an hour. I'm getting better at making the deflectors. The order you do the bends is really the key to making it easier.

I finally did a better job on the muffler on my Chinese saw.
Before it had the cat opened up, some holes in the baffles and a extra hole in the front, this was ok but the holes in the front got the wood hot plus we all know baffles suck.
It now is completely gutted with a 1 inch hole in the top with a deflector that has an opening equal to a 1 inch hole, which happens to be 80% of the exhaust port. While it is still straight out the front its up higher so the exhaust will go over the wood a little better.
The saw runs a bit better with a bit more power and is no louder while cutting altho it is louder idling.
I used a cheapy mig to block the front outlets and attach the deflector, its ugly but its a cheap chinese saw so who cares.
