At lease the P&C is still usable after cleaning... But I also wanna know more... I've seen quite some of these since I play with too much junked saws...
I've even ran 5w-30 in my test saw and it's still better than that.

Oil in the gas?? What??? Now that I think of it I put 50:1 Klotz super techniplate in the gas. I'm trying R50 now. The saw started out on Poulan 50:1 for a short bit on 89 or 87 octane, then K STP for most of it's life (about 45 tanks) in 93 pure gas since I heard a little ping or knock the first few tanks. It went away after the switch to 93.

I'm ok with this becoming an oil thred, I just was curious as to the comments on the pics. I'm thinking I might need to get a new piston and bearing since the bearing could have been exposed to carbon crud.

At least it looks like I put a lot of miles on it.

Our 2017 390xp with about half a million ft timber cut on it looks like new inside compared to that.... either your using crappy oil or tuned too fat. That’s definitely not normal.

Also, you want the circlip opening to be at 12:00 or 6:00. Less risk of it popping out.

I thought R50 was one of the better ones not having castor oil. I think it's the castor that really did it. Carbon plated piston anyone? I recently switched to R50 after finding out the other oil isn't for long term work stuff. It definitely wasn't tuned rich. I've also wondered if Klots burns my eyes or if regular exhaust will do that, and such a big saw put out so much exhaust that my eyes sometimes burn and water.

Thanks, I think I'd notice the clip during rebuild. I did notice they had ears when looking through the pics, and it got me wondering.

Not to turn into a oil thread but there’s nothing wrong with using these couple that you can buy darn near anywhere locally... Red armor, echo powerblend, the newer husky XP+ or plain XP oil. Never had issues tuned properly (as in not fat or lean) and at 40:1 ratio. There’s more good oils out there. All the good stuff is really about the same regardless of how much people argue about it... pick the one you can get for cheaper. About the only good thing about klotz is the smell lol. Nothing wrong with using oil made for ope. All of this is just my opinion.
