guys drop off a 200t the other day and say..."runs fine for about 10/20 minutes...then no power..."

I say..".I'll have a look."

immediately my mind goes to carb-coil-pressure relieve valve pretty much in that order.

take it out to the woodpile and sure enough start fine runs fine for 15mins then farts out and dies. so I take the air filter cover off (on my way to check/replace carb and find this...

so I figured this needs changed and I figure....wth see if it runs now....and with a "new" filter it ran great and so far so good.

my question for y'all is why would a clogged up filter allow air to pass through for 10-15 minutes of running then not ? shouldn't it be an "either run or no run" thing?

It will allow air to pass through when dry, when it gets a little spit back it is over!

The new filter is more efficient and can tolerate a bit of spit back.

That's my theory … and I'm sticking to it!!!

(Can't believe they don't check the air filter before they bring it it!!!).

Then again my favorite Tree Guy, who cleans his filters daily, told me he has no idea how to tune a saw … he just runs em! (And he has been in business for over 30 years!)

I guess in today's world, you can just turn left till you hit the limiter!

good point mike...I forgot about spit back. that's a good point.
I always tell the guys to tap out the filter when you take a smoke break. "smoke and tap" I tell them... in Spanish of course. here's the shocker....what the inside looked like

It's a wonder it even ran at all! How does the P/C look from sucking in all that dirt?

Wowzers. And folks worry about a few microns of wood dust getting past their air filter...meh! That 200t has successfully consumed a few trees with little complaint.

I recently had the owner of a tree removal company hand me a Husky 41 with a melted down top shroud and a split open muffler. He said it was running a little hot on him, but he had to get the job done so he ran it until was so hot that he couldn't hold onto the outer handle any more.

He said, " Edwin, I should have stopped and let it cool off but I figured you could fix it."

For one reason it's cold even when it's hot it's still polling air but a plugged air filter will run lean just like a fuel filter will so it was getting pretty good and hot keep them filters clean.
