Noodle show..
Looks like fun to me, except the part where you had to load and unload those blocks.
I pushed a small ash over today at a buddies and bucked it all up with the ms201 mtronic rear handle. Then dropped a nice sized dead poplar and bucked that up with the ported 2166. Also graded a spot down by the creek for his grandkids to get into the water.
It was a good time hanging with a good friend I havent spent time with in many yrs even though we talk often.
I dont drop to many trees that I can just let go, seems everyone calls when their leaning the wrong way, but this one i got to make a conventional knotch and back cut which is the first in a long time that was over 12".

I didn't get any pics of the pile of logs I set aside at my neighbor's place, but I borrowed a chipper and pulled it over there this morning to help him with his project.

The people who built this house dug a foundation into a hill when they would have been better off putting it on stilts. So he's basically clearing the whole lot so he can have a bunch of soil removed from around the house. He had about 7 or 8 mature hardwood trees dropped yesterday. Mostly red and white oak with a couple ash. He's got a couple guys coming for firewood, but neither really wants anything over 12" diameter and they're both hauling it home in half ton trucks.

So, looks like I get all the big stuff, which suits me just fine. I'll load it on my gooseneck and buck it up there, then pull my splitter alongside. I'll try to take some pics if I remember. One or two logs might get milled up, we'll see.

Anyway, here's what it looked like yesterday afternoon.rps20190615_203628_745.jpg

And here's what we tackled it with. It's very handy to bed able to maneuver the chipper right where you need it. Still need to add a grapple someday, but the forks are okay and the winch was great for pulling the big chunks off the piles of branches. rps20190615_203656_953.jpg

Edited to add: no, those dinky homeowner stumps are not what I'm referring to as mature trees. He cleared that stuff himself and hired a tree service to get the big stuff that was over the house onto the ground. I didn't want to introduce myself by talking *s-word about his stumps right away, but soon I'll mention that I'd be happy to give him a tutorial sometime.

View attachment 186526 Got the last bucket of maple from the the wind storm split yesterday. Dont know if it's because it was blown down or what but this is the hardest splitting maple I've ever felt with.
Nice job.
Sugar maple? Was it very dense, hard cutting also.

Its red maple. The SS axe would just sink in and stop. It was all noodle the big stuff and swing the isocore
I remember you saying that now.
Yesterday I talked to a guy I dropped a sugar maple for a while ago, he said it was a bear to split, also so heavy they used the backhoe to carry the wood to the splitter and as a table to work off from.
If it dries out this week I'll split some more wood as well as haul a little more, it's pretty wet here right now.

We put 4.5 hours on that Vermeer over the weekend cleaning up my neighbor's place. I went over this afternoon and skidded some of the biggest stuff back to my place. That's an 18" bar on the 036 and we're looking at the small end of all those logs. A couple of those white oaks are pretty sizeable. rps20190618_202122_104.jpg

I also loaded some logs that aren't gonna get milled on my trailer and got those bucked up this evening. The basswood I cut at 32" and the oak at 16.

rps20190618_202315_579.jpg

I had my box blade on today for another project, so I did some heavy lifting while I had it on. The box blade I have is a monster and it's the heaviest implement I own. I didn't even need 4wd for these pallets. I figure these are 40-50% of a cord each. I unloaded 2 down in the sugar bush and then brought the wagon back up and loaded 2 more. Mostly poplar and pine with a little locust mixed in.

Got that basswood split and racked this morning. Also unloaded my wagon and put the basswood up there for the ride down.

After the basswood I split up the oak. Made a nice little pile. I'll burn it or sell it winter of 2020-2021 I suppose.

After that I went back for another load. Didn't get a pic yet though.

Edited to add pic of the current load.

Three hickory logs, they can be milled or what ever you would want to do with them.

After years of thinking the only way to split was with an axe, I finally got myself a splitter. Have about 30 cords to work through this season, a good bit of which is incredibly dense and twisted pine and incredibly dense madrone.

Sure I'll have pics at some point :)
