What saw?
Is this pin located on every Stihl saw?

Thought you guys would find this interesting. The 500i has significantly more torque than the 462 according to this test done by KWF which I think is out of Germany (?). Fuel consumption is more on the 500i, which is to be expected with the larger displacement. The vibes are also less on the 500i and the oiler seems to output more according to them. It’s kind of hard to decipher with the language. I don’t take paper specs as a word for word, they aren’t always right. Especially if they tested saws that were not broken in yet. But they are interesting. 9FBE286F-F3C9-4CE2-8DF0-1F655F10B591.png 3E1A29D8-866C-49F2-9439-B877009719EB.png

The one for the 572 shows exactly what I was thinking of for how the power delivery is vs the 462. 462 has real good peak power and torque. But the 572 torque/power drops off less over it’s rpm range. More midrange power. Vibes are a touché smoother than the 462 under load, which I can confirm after running both. It also consumes less fuel, which I can confirm too. 500i feels a bit torquier than both to me and the paper shows that too. I’m gonna take a guess those numbers for all will improve if they tested saws that were new not broken in?E0DC06C5-E323-401D-8AA6-3DFFF3EA7C3F.png

Interesting how the 390 has torque starting at 5,800 all the way to the 10,500 peak power. Pretty wide band width. She likes her fuel too. I can confirm our 390 absolutely eats fuel. Lol

@AlfA01 I was wondering if you had an update on this saw since you did the initial mods detailed earlier in the thread? I think you had got as far as opening up the muffler, tightening the squish and widening the exhaust and you detailed how a timing advance was detrimental. Do you still have the saw and have you modified it further? Appreciate a response if you have a chance.

It did get raffled off...Juan was the lucky winner @ucm931 I got caught up in life stuff and didn't finish this thread.

The final work I did on the 500i was changing the duration on the intake. I have some notes on it, but my book is packed for a move at the moment.

After over 100 hours on my second 500i (still stock for testing) i would still go with a ported 462. Just fits my needs better, the 500i is a good saw, no issues so far but I can do allmost the same things with the 462, with less fuel and way better filtration. The 500i will stay, just for the sake of owning one [emoji1] after a good clean up I will port it with a prober squish cut in the next weeks.
