I have an old 5 bolt Husqvarna 562XP that my father and my uncle brought home to experiment on... they did their experimentation on it and I wanted do do some as well. One day I was sharpening my husky 372 chain and had to put the bar and chain on the 562 because my 372 needs a carburetor mount and I didn't want to get metal any where near the intake. Even though the intake was stuffed with a paper towel... (I'm paranoid when it comes to that stuff). Any way I got to thinking of this sucker could run... and we had another junk 562 so I robbed parts off of it and slapped them on the semi decent 562. It had gas and bar oil from the last time it was ran so I pulled it over... 3rd pull sheared the flywheel key.... . I had to rob yet another part from the other junk 562 and had to put the recoil grabbers on the good flywheel which took an hour and a half because I didn't know what the ef I was doing. Skip forward a few hours of tinkering... within 3 pulls it fires, another 5 pulls and it fast idles and revs once but stalls. I was hootin' and hollerin' for a good 10 minutes. Here's a vid.

If you think it is a case leak, you could lightly spray carb cleaner around the gasket while saw is running. Listen for any changes to check for leak.
Also check with dad and uncle. VERY knowledgeable guys to have on your side!

There’s a whole lot of bad going on with both of those saws. Junk 5 screw case saws that our dealer gave to us to get going on his dime but it’s just not worth it now that the updated cases aren’t cheap anymore. Cylinders are scored, carbs are old versions etc etc. Just not worth the effort, cost to update them will be a little more than just buying a new 562 that has all the updates.

And yes, no base gasket will definitely cause an air leak buddy. I was trying to do a delete but then I remembered the cylinder skirt hits the case and won’t allow a seal with 1184. Have to machine it or run a gasket for it to seal.

Those two saws really are junk, good for nothing except getting all the fasteners off of them for use on other projects.

Grind the extension down to fit, doesn’t need to be perfectly cut on a lathe like a base.
Good tinkering project, nothing to lose..... except screws, after all, it is a hooskie.

Dnt you worry there bub:):). I know those saws are junk and I like to learn about newer saws and how they are put together. Thats the main reason I was diggin into that 562. And the second main reason was that I wanted to see if it will run.:):D. And it does but very lean...
