In 1988 my right knee had an encounter with a Poulan 3400, they had to cauterize blood vessels, trim flesh and then put 33 stitches in me.

Still I felt lucky as the guy next to me in the ER had apparently been going at his boyfriend from behind and broke his member...

I've been in the saw business in one form or another my entire life, run a chainsaw 7 days a week and the only time I've been cut by one is when a chain broke and hit me in the knee, it was just a scratch but I've been lucky. When I was 8 my dad was almost killed by a 5200 poulan kicking back and cut him from under his chin to his belly button, took a year for him to heal. I wear a hard hat falling but that's it,I've been meaning to get a set of chaps but haven't yet,I've hope I don't wait to long. Be safe men.

And he has resorted to measuring RPM's of saws in video format with an RPM App ever since.

I heard about a guy yesterday in the log woods that somehow cut his leg off!
I've studied it and ain't sure how that's possible but it supposedly happened here yesterday.

The kid was about 20 and home on leave from the service. I got to listen to the call he made to his mother explaining he would not be home for dinner as they were keeping him overnight to operate.

I have chaps and wear them regularly. I also have a scar on my thigh from my pre-chap days. For those of you that think you have enough experience and caution to not need PPE, I hope you are right. I ran a saw for three decades without hurting myself with one, but then....

In my experience getting bit makes you respect the saws more. I like to put the saw at my side to push limbs out of way and I'm a lefty so chain is on side of my leg. One time she was still spinning down and caught pants... No problem. Another time same thing but there was already a hole in the pants... Got bit and needed it cleaned up... Not too bad though. Now I always stop the chain by tapping bar tip on log or hit the chain brake.

I gotta get me some chaps though or pants that are chaps...

Glad you didn't need skin work!

Wearing shorts cutting in the woods... Darwin award winners.

Been thinking of getting some chaps, not sure if they make them in gerthy sizes. Whenever I go out to cut a little wood I try and be aware of what I'm doing, but last time I went out I had a couple close calls due to some broken limbs hidden in the underbrush tripping me up. At least once where I got lazy and cut a limb right next to my leg, stupid on my part if it had kicked back it would have got me for sure. As they say better to have and not need than need and not have.
