Are the adjuster holes different

You have to drift the adjuster holes toward the rails 1-2 mm. Did some light adjustment to the oil holes as well. Otherwise it's been a great match. Really didn't take long at all with ye old hoof rasp.

Had a 16" d176 Oregon prolite by chance. Used it on the cs590 a few times. My hutzl 3/8 small spline rim came in the other day. Swapped it on the cs490 and the d176 bar. Bar fits the studs nice and oils well through the adjuster holes. I did drill a second set of adjuster holes further back(ran out of adjustment). Ran a tank through the little 490 with the 3/8 (72lgx 60dl). Pretty impressed. Can't lean on it in bigger wood like a 60cc saw but it held great rpms self feeding. I think it may cut faster than .325? Bet the 501 does great with the additional 20% hp.

There is a noticeable difference between the 490/500 and the 501. I stuck with the .325 on it and am very happy with the carlton full chisel.

Well no cs501p for me. I ordered saw last week, its still not here so i used my deposit to buy a 543XP that was in stock at the store. Cant wait any longer for a saw, i allready lost a week and a half of work now.
That's a bummer! When I ordered my 620pw the dealer had it in 2 days!

I would have waited for the echo. I’m not a fan of the 543xp personally. But that’s just my honest opinion. It’s not terrible, just better options for the $. Dolkita 5105/421 are good small saws as well. My favorite is still the 346xp.

Honestly, I thought the 490 was pretty pathetic in the power department when new/stock. Don't get me wrong, love the feel and lightweight....

Sounds like echo realized this and crafted the 501p to stay competitive.

All three saws are anemic unless you remove the muffler restriction just below the deflector. Whole different animal after that. Plenty of room for a second port on the muffler as well.

Well, after a gallon of gas today, I could not stand another minute with this 543xp. Guttless wonder. So, the muffler came off and went under the knife, removed deflector and cut out baffle, what a pita..... cut out the area under the screen, and screwed the deflector back on. All I can say.......its a totally different saw now, reset the mix and cut half a tank worth. WOW.
