All below can have exceptions, so these are generalities I’ve personally seen.

The 034S jugs generally all KS. There are some exceptions, I have seen one Mahle 034S jug that has the outer fin structure of 034S and an intake like the 036 tears drop.

The 034S has smaller fins. You’ll need to trim an 034S top cover front airdamn if you use an 036 jug.

034S has super flat Ex roof, like the 10mm 044 jugs do. The intake on the 034S is more traditional, not like the 036 teardrop.

The squish is different. You can usually run an 034S jug without a gasket and get around 18 squish. 036 jugs are tighter, around 13 without gasket.

034S have the tightest smallest transfer tunnels of all 1125 jugs. Smallest. The Gillardoni late model 360 jugs, very easy to spot because of shiny AM looking appearance, have the largest tunnels.

The 034S uppers are square and super tight, the 036 jugs are generally more radiused.

Port timing is a bit better on the 034S. It’s a true popup jug. It’s will run right on the tails of a full port job with a popup piston and some off the base.

That’s All I have. See page 1.

I thought 034. 46 mm was only one to have that.
Im just doing some reading and found this post and thought I would add that my 028 44mm jug also has this tit..but y'all probably already knew that..

I hope my response to this thread is ok. I need some advice. On the left is a good used mahle cylinder. On the right is a new ks cylinder which one would port or does it matter. Looking for the best performance.

Sorry I may have been inaccurate it's an Ms 360 cylinder. It does have an hole for a compression release.

Looks like a Gillardoni jug...
Based on the color of it.

I'm really new to porting. I have fixed a lot of saws but want to try my hand at some basic porting. Just wanted a suggestion which cylinder might give the best performance ( mahle or ks) or doesn't matter. Thanks to everyone for any response.

I have no idea, both brands have VG reputations. I guess it would depend partially on what equipment you have.

If you are just a "hack" like me, and don't have a metal lathe, I would put a timing wheel on the saw and check the port timing and squish of each cylinder and see what seems to be the closest to where you want to go. It is always easier if you have to do less work to get there!

Doc Al is the MAN on these things, my MOFO 360 runs real nice, and I like having a decomp on it.

If you're new enough to porting that this is your first attempt, I'd not use the brand new expensive stihl cylinder.
Just sayin'..., lol...

Or what MustangMike said about figuring out which one has the best numbers to begin with is good advice.
Width of the squish band/size of combustion chamber/squish clearance could be deciding factors also, more so if not doing machine work.

I like that these threads get brought up to the surface every now and then,,, it shows how useful these threads really are. :D

For newbies like myself, I go through trying to research information. I want to ask questions but I don't want to be a pita (pain in the ass).
I've saw some responses to newbies along the lines of..
I answered that years ago, research it...I would love to sit with a builder..watch, learn, etc..
