That's a damn good looking saw DJ. And the hat is cool too.

No one has a top cover in stock. But, that's OK. The thing about living in Ireland is you have to find a way to make stuff work. It's expensive bringing stuff in, and there's precious little about to make life easy. So I went and opened the hole up a touch more with a dremel so the crack might not grow larger in the future, grabbed a rubber grommet and some super glue and went to work:

Ugh. This 281 is killing me! Now it's not got spark. It just died while idling. I swapped plugs to make sure that wasn't it. I rewired it coz the wires were tired and worn through(top one from the coil to the other 'coil', right?). Nuttin. Took the kill switch out of the loop. Nothing. I only just replaced the little coil a couple of years ago. What a pain.

Test continuity across pins of switch to ensure it’s not internally shorted causing constant ground? Disregard read right over taking it out of the loop all together.

I had the same thing happen to a 288. It would die at idle and start right up. Crimp both ends of the red wire, between the coils, to tighten them up. That fixed my problem. The rough idle they have would cause the loose wire end to bounce around and loose spark.

OK, I'll give it a try. SOmething I also noticed this morning was the chassis was loaded up with mix, and it poured out the carb as I was airing the thing out to make sure it wasn't flooded. I am hoping maybe it loaded up while I was trying to restart it. I injured myself last week, and maybe wasn't able to get the 400rpm's necessary to generate spark while I was holding the saw with my feet and the plug with my hand. I don't have a vice up here big enough to hold a saw this large. Good news is it has new wiring, I guess. SO, I'll go ahead and crimp those wires on the positive terminals then.
Thanks, mang!
