Restoring an fs80? I have an fs80 that sees quite a bit of use on 4 acres. Bought it new 20 years ago. Only things replaced has been the gas cap, spark plug, air filter. Wore out 3 stihl bump feed heads. The stihl automatic feed head sucks. Switched to a speed feed head a couple years ago. +1 on the speed feed head

That one is way older than mine. About the same vintage as a snapper I have that needs a gas tank but is NLA. Does it have a Mikuni carb? Nice looking machine you got there.

It has a TK Carburetor. I've gotta order a throttle cable and the head. I have a few things on the way right now. I actually have an extra power head on the shelf. You cant see it in the picture but it has the bicycle handle bars.

Speedfeed are good, just the regular size. Even the EBay China copies are near exactly the same & wear just as well. I buy 10 at a time lol.

I'm going to order the Oregon 55-294, 3-3/4 speed feed. $27.94 on Amazon prime. I found it a little cheaper on ebay but I love the prime shipping.

Has anyone ran .105 trim line through one of these? I have a large roll of platinum gator line.

Never tried it in the speed feed but did in the Forester clone of the Stihl bump feed head. Didn't work the best. Didn't bump feed reliably. Picked up a big spool of .095 cheap so I don't care how much I use now.

I do a lot of trimming around a fence line and it just eats the line like there's no tomorrow. Also we have several massive rose bushes. Five acres of property and a ditch thats to steep for the mower.

I trim around a 300 ft rock planting bed. Got tired of rocks eating line so I took an old 4hp push mower and made a Swisher like string trimmer that uses the .155 line. Holds up th the rocks better than the .095 and .105 stuff. I didn't see much difference between 095 and 105. Line. I found the round line holds up better on rocks and fences than the stuff with edges.

I like the echo trimmers to be honest. I gave my srm2100 to my dad. Every time I see it I want a new echo. I have a Stihl fs62 and a troy bilt that has all the attachments. Im restoring the fs80 AV and Shindaiwa T20. Im hoping they will be my "go to" trimmers then I'll sell the other two. I really think I will like the T20 the most. Once I have those ready for service I'll be looking for a backpack blower.

Love my PAS 280. Freaking beast. Also have husky 322 just sold, stihl 80 and others.

PAS makes it so much easier to switch back forth with the line head.

I did get it running today. I threw on an old head from my trimmer box for now. I will order the speed feed and throw it on the T20. If I like it enough I will put one on all the trimmers.IMG_20190223_183558658.jpg

I may be late to the party but Speed Feed is the way to go. If you get the original Echo or Shindaiwa versions you may not get the correct arbor size. You need a universal one or the aftermarket ones that come with a couple of adapters. Mine is from Stens and side by side with a Shindaiwa version for $20 I can't tell the difference.

I've got 3 410/4111sst. 1 with about 6 months use, 1 with 12 mos, and 1 with 15 years constant. Parting out the 15, selling the 6 mos, keeping the 12 mos. Good gas tank. Have an extra NOS stand that bolts to engine. Just put a husky bump feed on with 095, seems to work really good ($26 at Lowes). Do you still need amything?
