Put some pics up or tell some sled stories.

I am in the process of putting together a 97 Artic Cat ZRT as a play toy or grass drag sled maybe. I used to build jetskis for fun and surprised how similar this is. When I made 2 stroke jet skis I almost always blocked off the oil pump and mixed gas. I cant seem to find block off kits for sleds. Is there a reason?

Used to race hill climb back in Alaska, ran a 1997 600 power extreme in modified class and a 1998 summit 583 in stock class. Had a lot of fun, broke a lot of stuff. Will have to try and find some pictures later.

5970FE2F-09AC-44A6-96D3-22C80B5AF699.jpeg This was right before we took off this morning. Put roughly 60 miles on ima couple hours with a stopfor lunch. Wife came out of the ditch on a driveway and some how slid and tipped the sled over. I was a mile down the ditch. Ditch was very rough so was going slow and it amazing how far back she was. She was good and told me she was laughing when it happened as it happened so fast. She is happy now that we finally rode for the first time in 3 years so my guess is we will be keeping the sleds and trailer since they are all paid off anyway. Looks like more snow in the forecast so we will probably be riding every weekend till Mother Nature says otherwise. Trails need to be groomed as the have lots of drifts but it wasn’t as rough as it could have been. Not sure we will ride tomorrow as we will both be sore tomorrow as I’m already getting stiff. Should have went and napped with her as all the fresh air has me plenty sleepy.

What engine you putting in it? A buddy of mine has a late 90's ZRT 440 snow pro 440 with dual stingers and 1.5" track. It's down right impressive. I've never been fond of the cats but I'll give credit where it's due, it's a fast sled. I had a 98 xcr440 l, first year with VES, and an 1" track, he would walk all over me. Even my brothers sled coukdnt keep up. He hax a 2002 (?) Pro-xr 440 that had a IQR 440 engine and 1.5" track. I ended up eating a lot of roost from those two. Too bad the stingers are illegal, they really wake a sled up.

I am putting a 600 back in for time being but have another bottom that will receive a 700 big bore triple. I will be shopping for different pipes also.
Can the oil injection pump be eliminated or becuase they run the water pump off the same shaft, does the oil pump stop the shaft from walking?

I dont know enough about them internally to answer your question. I know my buddies 440 had the injection removed and was premix only.

I've come to realize that one of the oil lines goes directly to the water pump shaft as a direct line of lubrication. So I guess we will keep the oil pump and reservoir for the time being.

Michigan.
Long time ago. Pre 1978.
On the road to Hulbert Michigan 1977.

27" of fresh snow put a crimp on rideing The first day.

It settled and froze Saturday night so Sunday rideing was better.

The 340 Z rear skid couldn't take the trail rideing. Had to be totally rewelded and more gussets added.

March 1978. Hulbert Hotel.
Brother and I took cousin Norm a senior HS kid on spring break. SkiDoo Olmpic about 1971/72.

Praying we didn't kill him. He kept up with the twister and TX pretty good most of the time.

Drank the bar dry the night before, Really they didn't get a delivery so were running out of eveny thing. I paid the price all day.

On the trail to Pine stump Junction.

At the Falls, Back then few were given permission to ride to the back side of the river where you could go down stairs to the riveer below the falls.

I under stand they have a regular groomed trail going in there now. Bet the DNR doesn't like that as they used to charge for a day use pass to see thre falls back then.

Still paying the price.

March 1979 Near Nubinway Michigan.

March 1981 near Trout Lake Mi.

My presant sled a 2001 Polaris 500 Classic. Being old is sort of nice. Heated hand grips, Heated running boards, electric start, reverese and mirrors so I don't have to be turning around to see where the wife is. She rides the same sled but a 2000 model.

Nice TX. Was it an L? Buddy of mine had a TXL 340. Man that sled was hot for such a small thing. Made a great backup sled even riding with newer sleds. I had an old 79 Cobra 440 and that ran good too. Wish I still had that sled.

Man I miss the old sleds, I have had several Olympic models, a pair of merc twisters, Polaris 340ss, cobra 440, John Deere 300, spitfire, and 440 trail fire, several Yamaha ss440’s , srv’s. My favorite was the old Yamaha enticer 340’s still have two of them back in Alaska.
