I'm an Ax Man buddy. When things in our plants aren't going well, I am sent in to evaluate efficiencies, headcount, management competency, equipment issues, etc. I lay out an improvement plan, begin cutting throats, and get the people on the floor what they need to succeed, which is typically a better management team who treats them like human beings instead of scum

I came from the floor so I see things from both sides of the coin. Most issues in manufacturing operations are directly related to inadequate leadership.

I typically have to read from the book of Revelations to get my way.

I'm about 20 mins. from Hazelton. I live in Berwick. If you like motorcycles and antiques, there's a really cool museum just outside of Berwick. It's called Bill's Old Bike Barn. I highly recommend it!!

I would love to come to a GTG up in this neck of the woods. Being in Oklahoma doesn't offer the same quantity of GTGs you guys up here are afforded.

Since I am flying in to PA, I would obviously show up with no saws. The best I could do is a 1/2 gallon of Jack Daniels and some Copenhagen...

What are some of the dates for the GTGs? I don't know how long I will be up here. Just depends on how long it takes to fix this mess.
Ct. GTG listed as May 18, 2019

You have intelligence, why did they give you a management job.

Because I'm pretty good at solving complex problems and I don't tell the executives what they want to hear. I made it to this point by being brutally honest, fair, and treating people right.

I say what I think is right, whether I am in a boardroom full of CEOs and VPs or a production shop full of regular folks.

My militaristic theory of management revolves around the 3 Bs and the 3 Fs that address the 2 main problems in manufacturing - people and process.

People need Beans, Bullets, and Bandaids to succeed.

Process problems are corrected by the Find Fix and Finish approach utilized by the military.

No magic wand, no fairy dust, just basic blocking and tackling. Application and execution of the fundamentals.

I worked for a Fortune 500 company that wanted “yes men.” Since times have gotten tougher and more competitive they are now in trouble because of that attitude. As an example they needed a cell supervisor for 75 machinists, many of the machinists had 30-40 years experience and were interested in the job. They hired an outsider with no machining experience but he did have a Bachelors Degree in Communications!

A lot of companies are moving away from academia and back toward experience, although it doesn't hurt to have a touch of both.

Yes men don't last in my company for any length of time. I am only 2 years in with this company and have shown many MBAs and "yes men" the door due to their incompetence and superiority complexes.

Hey Brian! I was born in Berwick and spent a lot of my life there. Owned a business there for the last 22 years before I retired. I still get down that way on occassions.

I recently bought a TimberKing sawmill and of course have been reading lots about them. Seems I have seen your name pop up on some sawmill threads, do you have a mill?

Sorry to the op for the sidetrack.

Small world!! I have a chainsaw mill but I also help my buddy at his circle mill out behind Buckhorn. What business did you own? Good luck with the Timber King!

I drove past the Sam Adams brewery off 78 again today just out of Allentown. I will get my dad there for a tour, soon! Haven't been to YingLing either. On the to-do list.

I have a friend from high school that works for Troegs in Hershey. I’ve been there with him. They allow employees to use their ingredients for home brewing. Helluva job perk!

Love Troeggenator. They almost went bankrupt when they moved from Harrisburg to Hershey. All those big orders to fill for the holidays and the filtration system malfunctioned and they had to shut down.

Negative Ghostrider.

My company is in the packaging industry.

I thought I knew which packaging company it was as the description of the corporate culture matches my interaction with the founders family but apparently my American geography is worse than I imagined. Newtown and Hazelton really aren’t that close together after all.
