I’ve read about drilling bar holes out and that sort of thing. I’ve got a new laminate Oregon on a 346 that just likes to plug with sawdust and oil. Is there a real solution to this or is it just madness. Do you cut a big assed slot I’m looking for a real fix here. Oddly the Carlton bar I just took off never did this. It’s hole was smaller than the hole I drilled in this bar. I’ve certainly seen this sort of thing happen but why all the sudden on a saw that oils well would this be happening. I’m not operating this saw at the moment but I could hardly see how a user could cause this. Input would be good

Too large of a hole will plug more easily because I think there is not enough oil pressure to clear it. I ruined a good tsumura bar testing drilling the hole out too much larger. At least I learned from it. The best size I found is the stock size on the tsumura and Sugi bars. I leave them alone. The Oregon hole I drill to the size of the sugi/tsumura.

I’ll try to get a pic tommorow morning or after I get out of work. I’ll have to measure the drill bit I used. It wasn’t a huge amount larger than the stock oregon hole. Just a little increase.

I've had the hole plug up too frequently. I learned to keep the chain speed up till I got the bar out of the cut. So if you let the chain stop, or nearly stop at the end of the cut, change your habits. Let that chain spin and keep the dust from packing in the groove. When you pull or lift out, there could be some slack and the chips and dust get in easier with no spinning of the chain.

JB it a little smaller? This was a mount for a different saw and the holes didn't line up so I had to adjust.

Check the inside of the drilled hole for a burr. It's likely there is a ridge around the hole that gives the chips something to hang onto. Take a very thin kerf cut off wheel and re grind the tail slot and see if it helps.

Husky rubber oil discharge hose has a minor flange effect that should sort of seal to the side of bar. Make sure that isn’t messed up or folding over when you snug up the cover

My 24" small mount Sugi plugs sometimes. The oil hole is drilled straight in so I'm thinking of grinding an angle into it so maybe the "dust" wont get jammed in it so easily.
