Well, I have decided to delve into the arduous task, of making my first racing chain. Not even sure if I started out with a good chain platform...but gotta start somewhere.
First pic is kinda what I started with...this was a round chain, brought to square on my razursharp 2.

Here is the same cutter after some weight reduction...

This is about 15 hours later.....
Some more weight reduction.
I accidentally got the wheel into the raker...also, rakers have not been brought down to height. Been doing a little research to see how much I should take off.
This is where I got to Friday, did have a setback though. Apparently I will be purchasing a set of goggles to grind with. Was wearing glasses, but dust , or filings got into both eyes, and basically rendered me useless all weekend. They are better today, but still very light sensitive.

Ye
I got aluminum dust in my eyes recently because I too was wearing only eyeglasses. Had to go to the eye doctor to get checked out. A tortuous experience!
ah. This has been a terrible way to learn to protect your eyes!! Lol. Hopefully be back to normal tomorrow.

Lol. I just grabbed a chain to practice on to see what it would take. Haven’t finished it yet, and not supposed to be toting saws around quite yet. I’m just curious how much of a difference it will make. I will likely get some loops of full comp to mess around with next time.

Get you a good cutting chain first, then do the chassis work

Good thread Frank, these race chains are voodoo and it’s interesting to see the changes. Hope all the work pays off and hope your eyes are feeling better.

Went to the eye doc today. Left eye was still bugging me from time to time. Had a piece of rusty metal still in my eye. Also said I now have some scar tissue from when the original injury occurred. He said the scar tissue will slowly get better, but it right near my pupil...will likely affect my eyesight at night, when my pupils dialate.
Take care of your eyes fellas
